Here are two photos almost from the same perspective, to show some of our newer Members. just how fast Bananas can grow, when fertilized and watered regularly . The first Photo was took around the 1st week of June.

Now, here they are again around the last week in August!
Amazing Huh!!

Hope everyone else has had the luck i've had this year!!

That is just wonderful Frank!! It really gives those of us new to bananas something to look forward to. I sure hope I can get part of my back yard to look like that someday.

Frank, those look great! On your tallest orinoco in the first pic (the one that fruited for you), were you able to save any of last year's leaves, or did it grow four leaves by May 1? I've decided that corm size doesn't help bunch size, but the number of leaves does! My puny bunches on huge corms are a testament to that.

And in comparison, my bananas still hadn't opened up their first leaf completely by May 1.

how often are your fertilizing and watering to get them to grow that much. Mine have barely grown more than a foot all summer.

Frank,

None of my Plants had any leaves when stored. The big one (the one that Fruited this year) was just a "post" when I planted it in April, 1 leaf was coming out. I re-checked the date of the Photo and it's...June 6 !!!! Very good observation!! Thanks for the kind comments!

=======================================================

imdocrob....I fertilized about once every 3 weeks, watered about twice a week. Used 10-10-10. Started out giving them 1/4 cup and later this summer 3/4 cup of fertilizer every 2 to 3 weeks. Had to cut back some they were growing so fast I was getting broken limbs on the leaves.

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments!!

Great work there! I was expecting to see parrots sitting in the banana trees and monkeys swinging from them! It's amazing how fast they grow--it makes me love bananas!

Heh - he could always bring in a colony of monk parakeets to finish the jungle motif.

Grin,

Great job Frank. I generally lean towards over fertilization. The rhizomes will take up what they need and here in south florida the soil is generally poor.

Look at the one just outside the gate to the right about two feet. That is some amazing growth.

Only thing I've seen that was more impressive is some of the ones that gabe was growing next to a U.H. building. They were the largest & cleanest looking 'nanners I've seen that hadn't lost any leaves yet. Of course they were heavily mulched and had a pretty steady supply of water.
