Default Mixup... Ooops!

So I decided to move my Dwarf Cavendish and Gran Nain naners (perfect ones to mix up, lol) into the greenhouse today, so I repotted at the same time... But I didn't remember to label which was which, so now I have four half-ID bananas!

The only noticeable difference is that two have five leaves and two have three and a half leaves. The ones with five leaves both have their oldest leaf half-cut-off. You can see the one of the left has more leaves...

Which do you think is Gran Nain and which do you think is Dwarf Cavendish? I have a feeling the Dwarf Cavendish is the one on the left with more leaves that start sooner on the stem. Thoughts?

You can't tell at this stage. The Gran Nain should be a dead giveaway because it has more color on the P-stem than DC. To me these look like neither DC nor Gran Nain because there are no wine splotches.

If you look really closely at the one on the left, it has some darker splotches toward the bottom of the stem... Is that what you mean?

No, wine splotches are wine-colored spots on the leaves. This is a characteristic of younger plants from the Cavendish family.

This is what I mean:

Also, they just might not have wine splotches because they're still too young. Check on the next few leaves for them.

Even if we weren't talking about two very closely related varieties, it can be really hard to tell young, tissue cultured plants apart. They just don't look like naturally produced pups, e.g., the lack of wine blotches in this case, which both should have if they were water pups.

Okay, well two (one of each I grouped together) developed new leaves with faint brown markings. It looks like hard water marks, but it's brown and its the coloring on the leaves. I guess those are Dwarf Cavendish then. I'll post pictures soon.

I have 2" Cavendish pups that show wine marks all over the leaves.
