Default More questions on raising Bananas Organically

Has anyone had experience using Azomite?

Is this something that would be good to use with my
bananas? I am so paranoid I'm going to kill them !

I also have some information ( thank you Jeff!!) that
I should mix in some Kelp meal and Green sand into
the soil?

Sorry I'm just so used to using run of the mill potting
mix and compost.

My husband and I have a bin going of table scraps! So
hopefully by spring we will have some of our own
nutrient dense compost.

If your just composting table scraps you might want to consider getting some red wigglers to speed things up. You'll have nice worm castings in no time and your plants will love you!

Do some google searches for red wigglers, worm composting, worm castings, or vermiculture. There are tons of places to buy ready made vermiculture tubs, worms etc, and loads of helpful info.

I'm not a banana expert, but...In my experience... Azomite can be very high in unwanted heavy metals, I would get a complete metal analysis before using it. I mix Green Zeolite, and worm castings in my pots.

I put everything in it, but I don't have any worms, it's just a regular composter. I have so many red wigglers in my soil now that I don't worry about adding worm castings anymore. I just keep adding raw organic stuff to the surface and the worms eat it up! When I was farming worms I used all the kitchen scraps sans any meat or dairy, and added newspaper for bedding. Coffee grinds are good too! It's pretty easy and they eat fast!

I just order some red wigglers from wormman.com. I hope they come soon.
