Default Musa 'Ele Ele' flowering

My Musa 'Ele Ele' at my house is just beginning to flower. It is only about 7ft tall, shorter than the 15-20ft they usually get. It has developed nice coloring at the bases of the leaves. I was afraid we would get a light frost Fri. night but it only got down to 36F.

Looks nice! Do you have a photo of the whole plant? I love to see those black trunks on this cultivar!

Nice plant! Did you buy it locally? (I'm over in Leesburg.) If you get some pups I'd like to trade for one- I have extra Pitogo, Dwarf Brazilian or Double, at 18" to 3'.

I bought this at the Leu Gardens sale a couple of years ago. I work there and we had got some trays of banana plugs to grow and sell at our sales. I planted it out in Sept. 2005 and it really didn't have any of the dark coloring until this past summer. It also hasn't produced any pups yet. I think we still have some 'Ele Ele' plants in the greenhouse that we will have at the Spring Plant Sale coming up.

Eric- let us know when the plant sale is going to be. We have several members around Orlando, and I'd like to get there.

Thank you, Eric. It sounds like something to get to, on both counts.

Nice pics Eric, thanks for posting. Unrelated question...hows the musa ingens doing? If it has gotten any bigger, have you considered donating it to agristarts? I am sure you could command a nice commission off that one..

It died a couple of months ago. It still only had grown 3 leaves since germinating.

There are about 40 vendors this year, including Going Bananas. I am running the Leu Gardens booth and have a few bananas for sale;

'Ele Ele'
'Mahoi'
'Pitogo'
cheesmani
sikkimensis
xishuangbannaensis
