Musa nagensium; Pics? Experiences?
I am very interested in trying out this plant next season. As you probably read on my earlier post, all I could get my hands on were the hybrid type (Probably musa nagensium X balbisiana) from Trebrown nursery, but it will still be fun to grow it, even though it most likely is not 100% nagensium.
I did order a packet from Seedman, and I am hoping what they have is the real thing. So does anybody have any more info about this plant? I have searched the whole internet, and not too much is published so far... So please, if you have pics or experiences please share them! Erlend

i have bin able to germinate musa nagensium seeds, and after they have germinated they pretty much took off! they are really easy to take care of! and fun to grow! but they say they are hard to get them to flower. that u need to hand pollinate it. Last edited by brycast! : 05-05-2010 at 05:34 PM. |

Re: Musa nagensium; Pics? Experiences?
I've grown cheesmanii or nagensium (since the difference is not clear) in the past, and currently only have one plant left. The first year growth was very god, but the first winter was a disaster to follow. The next summer growth was marginal and has never really picked up again, and every winter they deteriorate a bit more.
Very nice looking plants the first year, so I hope you have less problems overwintering them. My overwintering conditions were in an unheated greenhouse, 5 degrees minimum. Kind regards, Remko. |
