Musa 'Royal Purple' is flowering
I got this as a pup from a friend at a Southeast Palm Society meeting this Spring. It is supposedly a very hardy banana also, returning before musa basjoo in zone 8b/9a, and also in zone 8a. It came back strong after a 9F low in New Bern, N.C. a couple of winters ago. Hopefully it will turn out to be another zone 7 hardy banana.
The bloom is a little more on the pinkish side than what I would call royal purple, but still very nice nonetheless! And a shot of the whole plant. |

Re: Musa 'Royal Purple' is flowering
Nice pic. I'm glad to hear it survived 9 degrees and returned. I'll be interested to hear how it does for you in TN. Keep us posted.

Egads but does that look so neat and manicured! My property is a big lot of weeds and brush - I covet! Very nice looking and organized! Happy nanners too... Very inspirational - thanks for posting pics of your plantings!
Be well, Mike |

Re: Musa 'Royal Purple' is flowering
Thanks, guys.
Mike, I'm glad I didn't take any closeup pics of the lawn! It would reveal an unmowed lawn full of weeds and crabgrass! Thank you though. I haven't had any time or inclination to take care of the grass, besides mowing, this year. I suppose I'll start doing that this Fall and into next year. The crabgrass has taken over! |
