My poor Ae Ae, I hope they recover...

Well I took all my plants out of the nursery to get some full sun while its nice out and gonna keep a close eye on weather reports. I am thinking the problem must be not enough sun as the nursery is set up to grow baby ferns and the fact that every plant I put in there seems to be effected to some extent or another...

Wow, Martin. Your nursery is awesome! I think your bananas look great. I mean you could trim off all the yellow fronds, and they would look terrific, I think. I am limited in my experience with bananas but not with plants in general, and I don't see one problem or issue of rot or anything on your stems. I could be wrong, but I think your bananas have probably slowed due to the shorter days and longer nights instead of the intensity of the light inside. You could add a grow light with all the spectrum colors if you want to experiment. I had a grow light in my greenhouse one year, and I'm not sure that I saw much of a difference. Anyway, your plants and greenhouse are awesome. I am sure they will all be fine come spring. They are probably loving the protection and humidity of the greenhouse.

The thing about the Ae Ae's is that none of the leaves were yellow when I put them in the green house.

Actually the Green House isn't mine I am just able to use space in it. Was offered to be able to use the whole green house for whatever I wanted, but then a week later they changed their mind...

Interesting. Maybe the fronds yellowed from the cold? I have ones outside planted in the ground that are doing that, and growth has slowed for sure. I bet that they will be fine though.

Well, I guess some space is better than no space!

I've got a field full of trees that look like that. No freeze but a lot of the plants are deteriorating further as it warms up. The gran nains I have are especially hard hit. My bananas looked better last Thursday than they did today.

Well, they don't look optimal right now, but I'd say they'll recover just fine! Definitely doesn't look like they're going to die altogether.

ya I just am worrying to much maybe, but they are beautiful plants and my wife would kill me if I killed them after the money we didn't have that I invested in them...Well she probably wouldn't kill me but close enough...lol

The guy I got them from suggested it is spider mites but I see no signs of spider mites and I found no evidence of spider mites. Since all my plants have been having issues after I put them in the green house. I really think its low light. the green house was built to shade baby ferns and I was told that the plastic needed to be replaced ages ago on the roof. so I am hoping its just from going full sun to a small percentage of sun is the problem and putting them back outside I will see some improvement its in the 70's right now...

It wouldn't hurt to double check for spider mites. I was just about to say that myself when I saw your pictures. That what mine started looking like last spring before I put them out. I didn't see any mites either, but when I got them outside and checked real close, they were there. I'm sure you already know to check the soil moisture, but that could also be a problem being inside. I wish I new more, but that's just my thoughts on it.

Martin, while you have them outside, a good rinsing of the leaves with the garden hose will help to rid you of spider mites if you have them. The tell-tale sign is webbing on the leaves. I get them regularly here and use Isotox, Avid, and Forbid, rotating these products when I use them. Lately, I haven't bothered treating them because a good rinsing with the hose seems to keep them in check. Some people have used a drop of dishwashing detergent mixed with water successfully. Cutting off those yellow fronds will eliminate a large portion of them as well if you have them.

well now had to deal with the wind destroying more leaves....

Moved the Ae Ae's to the other side of the green house, but one of them only has the leaf that was pushing out left...

Who knows it may make them pup like crazy then you can sell them on here and make your money back and buy something nice for your wife....lol

I have a hard enough time dealing with my G/F just buying a few cheap bananas let alone an Ae Ae those aren't cheap...lol

If it isn't one thing its another, now I have fire ants building mounds in my Ae Ae pots. I can't use chemicals because the person that owns the green house is allergic to all kinds of stuff.

Any suggestions?

There are things that are natural that get rid of and repel ants, like Diatomaceous earth. There are also powders that you can sprinkle on them and around your plants that don't have an odor, and there are ant traps, of course.

Do be careful when dealing with fire ants because their bite is painful. To get rid of them initially, I would probably take the pot outside and take the root system out of the pot because they may have made a nest inside the pot. Then hose them off and repot with fresh soil. Use the ant traps to discourage future infestations. HTH.

Taking them out is easier said then done... lol they are in 35 gallon pots.

If I am going to attempt to take them out I will have to wait until the end of the week as we have another front getting it down into the low 40's by tuesday night...

Oh! LOL! How about a good soaking then with the hose to get them out of there? Maybe you can rinse them out of the greenhouse? I don't think they will do much if any damage to your plants if you decide to leave them, but you can try some odor free powders that they have at Home Depot. Wear gloves!

They actually got the ants when I put them outside on the 19th...

For the fire ants try the diatomaceous earth is it is not a chemical and non toxic. You could also try Borax. If you mix it with whatever the ants eat it will kill them.
