My Praying Hands Harvest, 2008
I just harvested my Praying Hands!
All of a sudden, overnight, several of the hands turned yellow so it was time. This was my first time tasting them and also my first experience peeling them apart. The fingers of praying hands are attached, but they do peel apart when ripe! Yes, you must peel them apart before you can peel them apart. The peels are similar to store bought bananas in thickness. Consistency is very similar to the store bought cavendish bananas that you are used to. The flavor is similar to store bought cavendish, perhaps with a very very slightly more tart aftertaste, a pleasant touch actually. Hope you enjoy the pics, I certainly enjoyed growing these and they stunned many a passerby!

Re: My Praying Hands Harvest, 2008
Congrats, Jarred. Some of yours don't seem as attached; or have you just pried those apart already? It will probably be a couple of years before mine blooms (if it survives the winters).

Thanks!!
I had a thread going back in March when it started to bloom, didn't realize it was that long ago. This is the link for that thread, with more photos to enjoy: Praying Hands blooming

Re: My Praying Hands Harvest, 2008
Jarred, I wonder when you pry them apart like that does it increase/ promote the ripening process?

I think if they weren't ripe, though, to begin with, they wouldn't peel apart so easily. The green ones are more "glued". Those I pulled apart were quite easy, some peels split during the process if you notice. Green ones wouldn't do that. I haven't had them any other way, but "'tree'-ripened" like this they were great!

Re: My Praying Hands Harvest, 2008
Those are amazing! The pictures were great too. Thanks for sharing. I have made room for another banana in my tiny yard and this web site is making it so hard to pick one. With each cool post like this I change my mind. I think I have it narrowed down to 8 now. Yikes!

Congrats on harvest Jarred! They really are cool looking naners. BTW, where are you moving to? Just wondering if you'll be close by.
