Nasty winter storm
Brazilian, Cardaba and Hawaiian Apple did not do so well. These are the east end of the patch with the wind coming from the west, so these were on the leeward side. So, not sure why they took the hit. Branches from neighbor's pine tree confirm wind direction. Brazilian was ripped out of the ground, everything else was folded. No other problems. Two Belle stalks with full bunches, and Misi Luki with fruit, close by, did just fine, as did others hanging fruit. Another supposedly nastier storm coming tonight.

Re: Nasty winter storm
No, but all were of such a size that they were ready to flower now or first thing in the Spring - so, yes, in a way.

Re: Nasty winter storm
Wow, that's quite a thrashing you got Jon. This thread makes me thankful for where I am, No Winters = No plants dig-ups, No Hurricanes...
Wish I can be of help. All the best, I am sure your plants will re-establish in no time with your care. |

Re: Nasty winter storm
Jon,
That really sucks about your nice banana plants at your place. We had something like that happen up here where I live. The winds were really blowing & thrashin breaking many leaves on all my banana's.I am also having some problems with the icy-cold nights we are having here with the temps at night dipping @ 35* farenheight causing the leaves to have freeze burn.Last night we had the same happen all over again with the winds and the icy weather. We are to have rain throughout the rest of the day and night here with 90% rain & of hail and thunderstorms. later Mitch
