new arrivals
This ice cream and ladyfinger arrived yesterday after only 4 days in the post, and in good condition in spite of the careless attentions of customs - still - thanks guys for sending them on and not impounding them. Thank you Jarred for packaging them so well, and your earth is very good compared to our alkaline shale which always needs so much work. But the gardener is taking up some turf tomorrow and that makes wonderful compost! Here they are planted and the ladyfinger is already showing a new leaf. The rebar is dog protection - a couple of 110 pounders at play cause havoc. Thank you again Jarred as they are in lovely condition - wait until you see them in a week or so's time! Cassie |

Re: new arrivals
You're very welcome!
That Ladyfinger was almost too big to ship, it's hard to tell in those pics but it probably comes up past Cassie's waist! Enjoy your new plants! I always get a thrill of sending bananas through different countries... And a note of advice on your Ladyfinger - please wait a while for them to ripen, they need a week or more after they turn yellow! They are delicious and very sweet and fruity flavored, they just need time. But you will have enough anyway even if you try to eat some of them too early, by the time you got through them all you will get to some that are better Here's to a few hundred years of bananas! The Dominican Republic folks will thank you Cassie for bringing all these different bananas into the country, hope you trade some with the locals and get them out there into other people's hands.

Re: new arrivals
Yes - once we have pups to spare we will pass them around - once we have something special to trade we might be able to find rareities here!! Watch this space. It is difficult to identify the different types of banana here, as they grow so easily the locals don't rate them especially and almost prefer the plantains. I might have to become a Spanish-speaking Sherlock Holmes! lol.
The ladyfinger sounds like our rulos (apple-like) which need to become soft and freckled before they are fit to eat. Thanks for the tip though. The rainy season looks as if it is just starting after a couple of very dry months - hooray - no more watering I hope, and stuff should grow like crazy!! Oops! we have cows in the road and the dogs are going mad. |
