Looks like you are throwing away good compost and 2x4's! Makes a pack-rat like me cry...

i wouldn't give them anything else; it would appear that they're wastefully unappreciative.

I'm lazy; I hate even watering my garden. But I'm also cheap. Good green stuff to nurture my garden in that can which the dump will not appreciate as much as my plants would. I'm fighting tooth and nail for anything compostable in Jacksonville and they're throwing the goodies away. Darn.

I think most tree trimming services will deliver free mulch if they are working in your area.

I have called just about all of them including your link and got nothing. I stopped to buy beer locally and saw a tree truck in the parking lot so engaged the foreman in conversation. I called the company; the owner's 1st response was "we don't have chips" but I kept him on the line for a minute. He excused himself then came back to say "Not now but I have your number." (I assume he spoke with the foreman while away.)

I'm not holding my breath.

Jacksonville is strange. I've spent some time talking compost/trash and such with a man who came here from Cincinnati to work in the solid waste division so he had a clue about how the rest of the country handles "garbage" and he's frustrated. They don't get it was what I got from our discussion. Sandy soil--put good stuff in--grow things--YEAH. Except people grow very little here--much like I noticed in the BVI and St. Thomas when there consulting on recycling during the 80s. (I'm an accountant not a trash expert.)

Scoop on Jacksonville? They had a yard waste composting facility that caught on fire a few years ago so they closed it down and began contracting it out. No more free compost. (I brought back 1/2 a truckload from Brevard county a few months ago.) They pick up used tires/recyclables/trash but if you want chips or compost you're on your own. And the tree guys here consider it too much trouble to dump it where they're working but would rather pay to shed the crap. Drive 30 miles with a full truck and pay rather than see if someone will take it gratis?

Very dismaying. (BTW, the guy I spoke to seemed to think I should try to enter the bidding process and set up my own company. No. I just want 3 loads of chips.)

Try befriending someone who works in the produce section of your local grocery store (smaller, privately owned is probably your best bet.) I have worked in produce for years, and can attest to how much good stuff is just thrown into the trash. I take home at least two boxes of trimmings from organic greens, and bags of corn husks everyday, as well as the occasional box of pineapple tops.

I know it's not woodchips, but ask if they would be willing to save a banana box or two for you, or better yet a whole garbage bag. Just make sure you pick it up promptly

I rake my neighbor's tiny yard for clippings or did until he got a new mower and no longer lets it grow to 1' or more.

I've given out my number to any tree company I see out working. Nada. People dump brush by the road which the city picks up. How I wish I still had my little chipper...

Some tree companies already have customers for their chips. The secret is to find one that has to drive all the way to the landfill, and would save time and gas. If they are already in your neighborhood, it works out for them.
