Not sure where to post this?!?!
I am new to bananas and am looking for a good reference book to add to my library. This is the time of year that my daughters ask what they can get me for Christmas and I think they would enjoy getting me books about the subject I seem to talk about all the time now.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a good banana reference book? |

Re: Not sure where to post this?!?!
Send Gabe a PM, I am sure he knows of a book if he hasn't published one himself that is. Rob

Re: Not sure where to post this?!?!
There is a book called "Bananas you can grow". Never read it myself, but I have heard some of the info in there is outdated. Nevertheless, it probably covers the basics.
I also like "Palms won't grow here and other Myths", wich cover many other plants too, as well as some bananas. As in the name, the book is about growing exotics in cooler areas. Erlend

Re: Not sure where to post this?!?!
The truth is, there isn't much. There is a very small book from Stokes Tropical Nursery, that you can read in half an hour, and a slightly larger book by William Lessard that is out of print, and not really worth the $100+ to obtain it.

Re: Not sure where to post this?!?!
Sorry to hear this... You would think with the interest bananas generate, someone would step up to the plate and compile a good reference book on the subject.... Oh, well....

Re: Not sure where to post this?!?!
I belive a german fellow named Joachim on this board is writing a book about bananas as we speak. He will also have alot of photos, as he had members here help him collect pictures earlier. I am hoping it will be in print soon!

Re: Not sure where to post this?!?!
Jared (MediaHound,) is preparing a wiki. When everything goes as planned, you will find most of your questions answered there.
But it won't be in a printed, sellable form. Though, if you ask me nicely, I may want to make a hard copy of the wiki and sell it to you for lots of $$ so I can afford to import that California Gold and Ace of hearts!
