Hello,

I'm looking for publications in reference to the origin of the Family Musacae.

I'm looking for publications with this topics:
* Origin of Musa
* Connections between Strelitzia, Heliconia, Musa, ...
* When, which spezia evolved?
* ornamental bananas and heliconias?

What do you think was first?
Musa
Heliconia
Strelizia
.........

and why? Which are closley releated? Which are the most closely related ones?

Gabe might be a good one to comment on this in detail. I can tell you that bananas and plantains originated in SE Asia. As for which of the genus' you mentioned may have evolved first, I can't help you there.

At the bottom of the main bananas .org page is an ad for Dan Koepells's book. This has some info concerning the origins of the musa species.

Or, of course, you could read Brent's excellent article on the origins and diffusion of Musa species by Subscribing to Bananas Quarterly.

Why, thank you!

If you even do a simple internet search by typing something like "history of musa" or "origins of musa" you'll get plenty of sources stating SE Asia as the origin.
