Hi, my name is Michelle and I am new to this board. I am becoming addicted to collected bananas.

I bought this Siam Ruby banana plant at a local nursery. I have only had it for a couple of weeks. I put it in a bigger pot and put outside and then it started drooping like this. I brought it back in and it perked up a little bit but now it is drooping again. It is slowly getting a new leaf. At first I thought I wasn't giving it enough water so I watered it and it doesn't seem to care. It doesn't have any insects so I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on what could be wrong. I bought a blood banana the same time and that one is doing great but I haven't repotted it yet. I haven't put the siam ruby in full sun either, just shade. I'm just puzzled about this. Any help would be appreciated.

keep it in shade and keep the soil moist but not soaked and it should come back

welcome to forum the Michelle, Try giving your Ruby partial sun if available, Sun part of the day then shade, or vice versa, is the pot you replanted in well draining,. what zone are you in? weather this time of year varies across the zones very drastically. Repotting can cause i bit of trama for roots, give it a chance and see.

Thank you for the help. Yes, it is well draining. I put rocks in the bottom and used good top soil. I have been bringing it in every night since the temps have been in the high 40's. I am in zone 6. It seemed to droop as soon as I replanted it and put it on the deck during the day. Maybe I should have kept it in the original pot until it warmed up. I figured it would be warmer by now. It was warmer last month.

Iam in z6 also. I bought my siam ruby 2wks ago too! It has a pup too!
It was in a very warm greenhouse, so I kept it in the house until the weather warmed up. I just put it outside yesterday. I haven't decided if I want to put it in the ground or in a pot.

I didnt repot, or water it at all. The soil its in isnt the best and holding moisture pretty good. It looks ok!

I am new to bananas. I just overwintered my bananas, and I learned that cool weather, bananas in pots, and water don't go well together.

You might be overwatering.

I always mix the soil for the nanners too! Peat moss, alot of coarse sand, miracle grow potting soil ( can't find promix), and perlite. You want the soil to be well draining.

I love your yard. I am gonna try adding some sand and perlite and see how it goes. The plant seems to be a little more perky this morning. Thank you for the suggestions.

I love it too. I have 2 porches and 2 decks , I position my plants so I have the best view when relaxing!

Siam Ruby's are not the most vigorous plants! They really like full sun and hot weather(colors seem to be enhanced by light intensity). If you get it aclimated to full sun it will grow best. Liquid kelp and fish emulsion are a great combo (at a dilluted strength) for plants that are in a state of shock. Even without any special treatment, it should recover on it's own in a week or so.

It is wilting from transplant shock and loss of roots. Cut off the lowest 3 leaves and maybe even cut the other 2 full leaves in half to reduce its transpiration. This is a standard treatment for transplants. Even if you think no roots were lost most of the fine root hairs will have been so new ones have to grow. This will take a little time.
