Default Pot size

All of my bananas look pot bound. Should I re-pot them even though they have 3 - 4 leaves each or what should I do?

What size are the current pots and how tall is the pstem?

Are you growing them indoors or outdoors?

A picture would be useful.

Stan ----- In my area roots fill up a new pot quickly --- spring thru fall. When I see that the demand for water has increased I just bump it up 2" in diameter.

During the hottest weather I look for roots sticking thru the drain holes. Then pop it out to see the rootmass. Because I use mycorrhizae I increase pot size by 4" when plants are actively growing.

The best test for rootboundedness is to drench the pot. When it has drained pick it up to the feel the weight. Pick up the pot again 24 hours later. If there is a minor change in weight leave it be. If weight loss is quite noticeable - repot it.

OK, thank you all for the info! mine are in the house at present but hope to get them outside in a month. I have three small one about a foot tall and the other three are about three feet tall. I think I might pot them on; they look a little cramped. Thank you all again.

Got any pics handy?
I had a 6' tall p-stemmed Ice Cream in a 5 gallon pot (less than a foot diameter x foot tall)
With leaves that was about 8'.
Crowded, but still could've hung on a little longer yet but I bet it was glad to get into a bigger pot.

Oh yeah, use much bigger containers. And use potting soil, like Miracle Gro potting mix (the stuff that actually looks like soil, not tiny mulch).
