Default To prop-up or not to prop-up?

First banana stalk for me , on a Dwarf Namwah planted last year. Do I need to prop that up or will it hold on its own?
Second question: how do I protect it from critters (SoCal chaparral country), especially from rats, ground squirrels, and raccoons?

Am I seeing the end of the banana hands here?

Looking great! Usually the dwarf are ok but if it starts to lean or if you feel safer sure do ahead and support.

Really lovely pictures, I guess the large boulders hold the day heat through the night?

Shouldn't need propping, biut if you concerned, it won't hurt to prop it.

Your plant looks amazing. The only reason you may need to brace it is if the plant is not straight or peace of mind. As for the protection, I am going to say some type of netting or mesh. Wish you the best of luck.

I put the boulders there to focus the bananas' gaze on the view

(Photo taken a couple of days before planting, last october)

Seriously, the main purpose of the positioning is to protect from the sundowner winds we get, and also to try and retain a bit of heat on cold days... Hard to believe how much these guys grew since June this year:
