Most say when its is dry few inches from the top of soil it is time to water lightly. Or when soil is holes in bottom of pot are dry. Plus use less fert. (half) in the wintering indoors plants.

Robby,

Is it a fruiting or ornamental banana?
What size pot (gallons or inches high & wide)?
Does it go outdoors in the summer, or is it indoors all the time?
Which MiracleGro formula (generic, tomato, african violet, etc.)?
