Default Recommend tall/fast growing bananas and M.O.

Hi

I am in the hunt for some tall bananas, fast growers preferred. I plant for foliage primarily but if I ever get fruits or flowers that's great too.

I have:

-Musa basjoo (1)
-Chinese yellow (4)
-Musa Velutina (6)
-Tall orinoco (2) (1 is 6 feet tall)
-Zebrinas (3)
-Dwarf cavendish (1)

If someone could recommend some monster bananas, I want to get a "WOW!" from my neighbors.
I would prefer tall growing, fast growing and that stores well in my basement for the winter as I am in Atlanta zone 7. Or that can stay in ground like my Basjoo, Chinese yellows and tall Orinocos.

I will chose from one of these M.O.'s, any others you recommend?

Have you thought about or got any Ensete, Ensete ventricosum normal is thall fast and stunning. Ensete Maurelii is great and easy to over winter.
there are a few pics here.
http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showg...er=505&cat=500

I picked up another Ensete Maurelii the other day at Home depot for 9.99 , my thinking is you can never have too many Ensete , but you can have too little growing space
Later

Bonjour

Yes I got an Ensete already. Not sure which variety as of yet as the pot wasn't marked. Leaves are purple on the outside, green inside. I got it at home depot landscape for $8. It is already in the ground.

Merci bien

Try tall brazilian. Protect it like your musa basjoo. Some say this one is capable of handling such treatment. Will also grow very tall. (20 feet+)

Hi

Thanks I just read about the Brazilian, it does fit the bill. I found the Saba too to be a candidate.

Thanks a lot

Hi

Do the Sabas corms really get that big? How big? I will have to dig them up, too cold in the winter here.

Thanks

Kandrian is also a giant banana, almost as large as Saba from what I've seen. The Kandrian I grew last year stored very well in my crawl space also.

If you can find Musa itinerans var. xishuangbannaensis, that one is a monster as well (up to 40 feet in the wild). Of course, there is M. ingens, but seeing as how nobody seems to be able to germinate the seeds here in the U.S., it isn't available yet. M. jackeyi and M. boman get to about 30 feet also, but good luck finding them. You can't go wrong with Ensete glaucum, E. ventricosum, or E. superbum to make a bold statement with. Ensetes store very well also. M. sikkimensis gets tall and grows fast, but not 30 feet tall.
