Re: rude or dishonest vendors
Hi Ron, before this thread gets on the way, let's have some considerations on what the whip lash may be;
1. Names will be mentioned with incidences. The good refs will feel good, the bad refs will get all heated up (they always find out somehow!). 2. All the text here are written evidence for anyone in the bad ref group to use as cannon fodder against the forum or individuals or maybe even legally. Of course the good comments can be used as positive testimonies for their business by the good ref group. 3. In many cases, even in this forum, there was such an incident of complaint against a well liked vendor. It turned out the one who complained was the nasty one. It got ugly. 4. Once names are mentioned, things can and will go ugly. Perhaps, we can talk about how to deal with the sh%# vendors and see the views of others here. On the names side of it, it's best to PM it. Howzat, before we go on a Triology type of journey in search of the One 'Naner Ring? |

Re: rude or dishonest vendors
I was a consomuer for many, many years, and am now a vendor (figs and bananas). I am NOT making a comment or judgement about the person who started this thread because I do not know him/her.
However, There are "customer" who are probably not going to buy. There are customers who can't ever seem to make up their mind, and have no end of questions and/or "what if" scenarios. There are customers that you can never make happy. There are customers that always want to "wheel and deal' or haggle about the price. no matter how good the price is to begin with. There are customers who call and order one thing, and then always want something different when they arrive, after you have picked and packed what they originally requested. In short, there are "customers" that you wish you had never seen. There is a finite amount of time, and, and if time is money. your time needs to be productive (making you money) - you can't spend 2 hours on a $10 sale. I'll spend a hour and often more educating visitors about the trees I sell, and maintain two websites with a ton of educational material. But in the end, the websites need to be paid for, the plants potted, watered, fertilized and so forth, and my kids are still addicted to 3 square meals a day, Again, I am NOT suggesting that the poster of this thread falls into any of these categories. But some people definitely do. My 2 cents.

I think the watch dog list at Dave's Garden provides all the feedback anyone would need. Personally I deal with members here and feel comfortable with that.

Re: rude or dishonest vendors
I can personally recommend Martha "MG" a member here as a great seller. She was very informative and helpful in our transaction. Also "Sandy0225" a member who operates Northern Tropics has been very helpful and took the time to anwser my questions. I would definatley purchase from her also. Both could be called valued members in my book...Just my 2 cents worth too

Re: rude or dishonest vendors
I havent had very much experence with purchasing or raising bananas yet but I was fortunate that my first 6 purchases was with Marthas Plants Trees Bananas Bamboo on Ebay. She's a wonderful and very helpful lady. She responds to emails quickly. Packages very carefully and ships fast. If she has it I will buy it from her first!

Re: rude or dishonest vendors
Cut everyone a little slack right in peak spring time. I'm having a hard time even eating a complete meal in one sitting! I try to stay at least pleasant though...

Re: rude or dishonest vendors
McBlunder,
I hadn't assumed that I was the nursery in question. And I didn't witness your exchange with the vendor. I just wanted to temper the discussion a little before it got a little too far. There are always two sides to an exchange, and it is often hard to tell, second hand, who or what was the issue and/or problem. I enjoy almost all of my customers, especially the ones who have the opportunity to visit, when we can have deeper discussions and demonstrations (with abundant visual aids in the nursery). I have been a CRFG member for 25 years, and we members are all about educating, and sharing experieinces and plants, etc. More often than not I bring too much of that element to the the business and not enough of the "business" of business. Fortunately, I do not live or die (or starve) by my business (I still have a "real" job), so I can afford to be a little less business oriented, at times. I very much enjoy the community aspects of gardening, and for me, especially with fig and banana collectors/growers. But we are all human, and sometimes we just don't "click" with everyone. I want to enjoy my business, but with some people, that just doesn't happen, as outlined in my previous post. If I do business with someone, and it works out well, I really want an opportunity to recommend them, but if it was a really bad transaction, I want to protect my friends from a similar problem. That goes for plants, plumbers, or whatever. Am I up to 10 cents yet?

Re: rude or dishonest vendors
I'm starting to wonder about the people I'm buying the bananas I'm getting from... It was a total impulse buy on ebay, so I didn't do my full research like I usually do, but their feedback seemed good. It's been more than two days now though and they still haven't answered my request for the adjusted total I'm supposed to pay them so I can pay and get my bananas shipped already.

Re: rude or dishonest vendors
I have never used them but they have a 99.6 feedback and have been in buisness with ebay since 2002. Usually with that kinda score within that legnth of time is a good sign that they will do what they say.

Re: rude or dishonest vendors
many of the aspects of thees kinds of transactions are symptoms of are society in general having been a manager in food service for over 18 years one dos come to some conclusions about thees mater one people are human
and we all bring are particular set of baggage to the tabla but the INTERNET has provided a rather anonymous forum for the carpet baggers to do what carpet baggers do and for that reason its buyer beware i have had some good experiences with on line transactions and some bad. iv even had bad ones with vendors that have good public relations and are highly thought of in there industry unfortunately you just have to try it if it doesn't work out then don't go back don't buy 500$ worth of goods on a first go try say 10$ then if it goes bad you are not out a tremendous amount use common sens all so make it clear what your expectation is Vendors cant read minds lastly and i know this from my own life some people just plain like other People and for that reason they are better at talking with you about your concerns and relish the opportunity to communicate with customers but theirs many that have pore communications skills and have difficulty feed back is good but its not a guaranty ultimately patronizing your local vendor were you can form a relationship is the best way to do business doesn't mater what kind people will most always take care of a naber wont you bend over backward to help a friend out i will i think its pretty clear to me at this point as far as the west cost vendors go who can be trusted and who cant and i and I'm sure many of your are more then willing to share that info via Pm to any one that would ask so communication is the key

Re: rude or dishonest vendors
I still haven't bought any bananas from an online vender! I want a jamaican red and a few others. I would certainly be willing to pay 20+ for them too, but there's just one problem. How come every retailer has that exact-same picture card with the dwarf-jamaican bunch? And not just the jamaican, but they also have the exact same picture card of 'Ice Cream.' You know, the one with the 500lb. anfedimine-fed gorilla bunch!
Look, I asked for a slow-groing palm to use as a windblock. I said, something full-sun tolerant that I could plant next to the foundation. The guy sold me a "queen palm." Not only is not slow, but it's the fastest growing palm they sell. The queen is also the most common palm in FL, and should not be planted against the house because it grows to 50ft. I agree with previous comments regarding obnoxious customers. On the other hand, even if a customer asks lots of question without spending money or spending little, he/she is very likely to share their experience with others. Now some may think that an unhappy customer or two will be replaced by the next 40 that wallk through the door, true. However, until late, the largest corporations in the US operated under that mentality for the last 40 years and look where they are now. Chevy did not become the biggest auto-manufacturer by denying warranties, but poor customer service ultimately led to poor customer sales. P.S. When buying bananas, don't rely on the label or tag on the nusery pot. I have noticed cav's tagged as basjoos and ice cream in the past. I'm still looking for Jamaican marked cavendish, however. Re: rude or dishonest vendors
Well, my little bananas came today. (I posted pics in the "what did you plant" sticky.) Communication was good, packing was good and shipping was timely. The only thing left to do is let 'em grow and see what happens. For the price I paid I'll be happy with just about any result, really. So long as they don't keel over dead tomorrow, but I can't see that happening.
