SDC survived the winter indoors in Pennsylvania

Hi all,

Just wanted to share a picture of my one year old SDC. It survived the winter in my living room with only natural sunlight. It was attacked by spider mites several times and it looked really bad in early spring. Now that warm weather is here, I put it back outside and new leaves are pushing out every week! The 3 pups have taken off too.

Don't know if I'll get bananas from it, but its been fun to grow. Thanks to this website for all the growing information!

Thats looks like a very nice plant you have there. Thank you for posting it, I love seeing others SDC's that they have grown. I just moved my first year SDC outside as well. We can both be hoping and waiting for a nice bloom this year.

Hi Paul!

Yours looks very nice! I will have to try some better fertilizer like fruit fuel at some point. I've only used miracle grow or generic stuff I had on hand.

Where did you find the 21 gallon wine container? My home improvement store pot is tapered and can blow over in a strong wind. I have been putting it against our patio tables and chairs to keep it from falling.

I got my 'wine container liner' from our local hardware store "Jerry's Home Improvement Center" It was being sold as an oudoor pond container. With a quick few holes drilled in the bottom and the massive wide lip altered for width management to maneuver it through the house better I was all set. They also have the wooden wine containers as well and I have been meaning compare measurements to see if my "wine container liner" will actually fit in the wooden wine containers that are being sold. I notice some wood wine containers are being sold made with new wood and other are either the 'real thing' cut in half, or at least made to look so. I do not care if original or not, I am just hoping my plastic "wine container liner" will really fit into a wooden wine container for the look of it. Getting a wine container liner is also dependant on a short budget, so it may be some time before I purchase one. I have already spent a chunk of change on what WAS once, although briefly, happy in a little 4" pot.
