Has anybody experience with shipping bananas in zones 5? I recently got a banana that was delayed close to 2 months in the mail, and I think it froze by the time it got here.
What's the best way to ship in the winter?

Hey,
I would think the best possible idea would be USPS / UPS Overnight shipping, IF you can afford it. I would only do this is if I had the money and I was being shipped something VERY important, otherwise, I would not. We do this when we get Frozen Meds for my grandma, arrives still frozen (and that was when it was the heat of the summer). Sounds pricey though.

Also, you could request Padding put in the box. Just an Idea or two.

I think I read somewhere that you can request to put some temporary heat inside the box for a minimal cost.
I just bought a lady finger from Logees and they are located at Connecticut I believe but the plant arrived at super A-1 condition. It arrived yesterday.
It is wrapped pretty good but some air in between box and the plant. And the soil is very dry.

I did it a lot but everything is sent to a post office box, if you get your mail delivered to a post office box it should be fine, but I realize most people here probably have mail sent to their house.

Thanks for the imput. I have a PO box, and can get it sent UPS to my house. Maybe it was just in the mail too long. Maybe I could request drier soil too.
I guess I'll try the regular method again with a cheap plant I want, and see if it survives.

My method is just to wait till spring.Other then that, if you live in an area that gets snow, ice, etc.. maybe a small heat pack would be ok?
