Default shipping question

I am going to attempt it but wanted anyones input that may have experience.

Shipping a banana plant from US to canada, been told and have read that it may take up to 2 weeks+ to clear customs. Anyone ship to/from canada, any suggestions on making it as easy and quick as possible? Thanks

Do not ship to Canada via UPS. Instead use the USPS.

I sent Cedar Dave a pup last year via UPS that was intercepted and consfiscated. I sent a replacement pup via USPS and it made it through. Could just be hit and miss, maybe someone was talking a coffee break and let it slide.

Hi Wolf, thanks.

No, no one that i know of...........i'm sure this will work out fine.....i have faith .........if not, i will check shops here to see what i can come up with.
I just recently had a friend from Pittsburgh send me cuttings and she dropped hers in a corner mailbox, and wrote "gift" on the front and i got it in 8 days from when it was sent, so hopefully this should be good.

You are very right....SNC was very generous to do this

Well First of all im very sorry that you have to make these accusations that i haven't received very many bananas from the states , because i have look in my gallery i have ic from OK. I have many more just haven't taken pics of them yet because i have been so busy. I have just received Kru, Orinoco, dwarf green, Bordelon, Blue java, Raja, pink velutina and a 2 from Vancouver when i was there in July, Esette i dont know how to spell that and a sdc. I have gotten all of these this summer starting in Mid July. And the kru& Orinoco came a few days ago like i said. And those are the ones with the Note as of all the other nanners have had it. Im not too sure about up there in BC but here in southern Ont there is a customs declaration notice we get when plants are shipped over or anything for that matter. And that thing about ebay i have looked on ebay and seen plants with low prices but havent gotten them because i need a credit card which your right i dont have because im 14. I really hope this clears some of it up for you.

Thanks,

Matthew

heres what I do... ship them by usps.... never list it as a plant.... call it almost anything but. garden ornament or christmas ornament...garden gnome etc. I have recieved every plant I have ever ordered this way........I have tried fed ex and ups for faster shipping but lost them every time. You will need papers for customs and will be jumping thru hoops if you try that way.. its not worth it. Unless you plan on inporting alot.. this is your best bet. just my 2cents

Banana Gallery - Sept_6_-09_008

There you go you must not know too much about customs then if you say theses no such thing. Every plant i have gotten has one of these with the pachage. there are other pics there if you still dont believe me i dont have many from the US.

Wow! Great info shot, Matt! A picture's usually worth a thousand words, eh?

BTW Wolfebc, Matt is Not a liar. I packaged & sent him a Blue Java (aka Ice Cream) pup a while back. I plan on sending him as many Banana pups of as many varieties as he wants, anytime he wants them (provided I have varieties he likes). I've seen his pictures and have been in contact with him. Also, I do NOT consider personal attacks to be in good keeping with the friendly nature of our group nor a good point of Netiquette. If any member's dialogue ISN'T Totally Impeccable & beyond reproach, well, nobody's perfect. I believe there are Moderators who would readily agree.

As I've said in many Intros, this is a FRIENDLY and informative site.... I think it should STAY that way, don't you.

I called the U.S. Postal Service prior to shipping the Blue Java to Matt. They checked their records & assured me that there were "no restrictions on sending banana plants to Canada". I sent the package & it arrived in about a week.

WOLF

Wolfebc: I have alerted a Moderator to your "member bashing" activities. You will be recieving a PM soon. The matter is no longer in our hands.

Also: I read your last post. It does not merit response.

I'll be sixteen before spring, Don't call me kid.
Also, as many many members can tell you, my original Username was "Michael James". Oh, an I used "Paint" program to erase my address. If Wolfebc ever showed up at our house, my dad would probably.... well, Wolfe sure wouldn't like it !

Okay. I was in a hurry the day the package was mailed to Matt so didn't take photos. Matt took pics when my package made it to Newmarket Canada so I borrowed his. Here are pictures of the package showing all the stamps & stuff on it. Notice that one of the papers says "Live Plant" (the green paper & lower-left of the red stamp-mark). Jan Told them it was a Banana Plant before she signed it and I WAS there an heard everything.

Also, I totally agree with what Matt says, above.
