Re: Siam Ruby forms
TY, Brian!
When you have a chance, please - 2 questions: 1. Would you advise separating them or giving it a hold & wait, given the probability of them being clones? If they were/are growing in a clump, I'm not too sure how possible or feasible separating them would prove to be. It wouldn't be something to fuss about so much if the little ones coming up were the same as 'mama', but there's 2 & possibly 3 forms in that pot. I want to try to give each the best chances possible to grow on & thrive, so that's why I'm on about whether they should each have their own space/pot. 2. Do you know if it's common for cloned plants to 'emerge' weeks/months apart like the timing of some of these? (ie Kylie, myself & the others) I'm tickled pink to watch the process, but I DO get mired in details - both a shortcoming & a plus at times! Now if I could find my glasses so I can see how to work the dang camera that I borrowed ... THAT would be a plus! Diana btw - The Siam has converted my daughter to venture out to the garden, thankyouverymuch! She lurves seeing the daily changes to the Ruby & has taken to watering, petting & whispering sweet words of encouragement to it! She has NEVER shown interest in my plant addiction & I'm sooooo stoked to see it! . |

Re: Siam Ruby forms
Diana... I'll come help you find the glasses...LOL I want to see some pic's ..I think it would be cool for mine to produce red pups. BUT I am very excited about the possibility of having something different as well.. I think all of the forms are beautiful... Could a green pup eventually produce a red or one of the other forms??? I find this all very exciting...

Re: Siam Ruby forms
I would not suggest seperating them until they are a decent size usually 1 foot tall or more. They should be fine growing in a clump till then. Pluse if your in a colder state it is always best to wait till spring to start seperating plants like this.
I have found with most TC things that if you get a few plants fairly fast out of one plant it is probably seperate clones. In most cases when recieving plants they always seem to have just one small plant per cell. But in some cases were they are pushing them hard you get tons of small ones. I have some photos of some growing in clumps that were all from one cell and their seems to be a few different forms. |

Re: Siam Ruby forms
Okay, Kylie - I didn't find my glasses, but I did keep pushing buttons 'till I finally got some pics. Poor quality & the color sucks, but they work to show the differences between the 3 plants (I hope!). I gotta go read up on how to upload, but I'll get 'em up today one way or another! And you're so right - they are ALL beauties, & it's very exciting to see!
Thanks for the tip, Brian - I'll do that & keep 'em in the pot together for now. The pot is big enough for me to sit my rather prodigious butt in it, so there's room for 3 for awhile! May I tell you again just how pleased & grateful I am for your help & generosity? This project is the most fun I've had in a good, long while (& the kiddoes are all puffed up w/pride that Mom is sooo happy w/their Xmas present!). So TY,TY,TY, Thank you! Diana . |

Re: Siam Ruby forms
Like I said ... I'm no kinda photographer! The color isn't true and I don't know how to resize (among many other things!) but these are the thumb shots to show the leaf detail of the 3 different plants so far.
the kinda stripey/dunno-what-it's-gonna-end-up-looking-like: the green w/faint green stripes: the original Siam from Brian w/the green baby: another leaf detail from the original Siam clone showing larger green blocks: Diana . |

Re: Siam Ruby forms
Hey all!!!
Looks like the pup is starting to take on some color.. It is still small but staring out like the original plant..Each leaf seems to contain more color with age... Looks like it could be a soild red... Kylie |

Thanks Anna, I like to take pictures of it in the morning because the sun hits it at an angle and really makes it glow!

Re: Siam Ruby forms
Well, I do hope you're all proud of yourselves. Thanks to everyone's awesome pictures I had to go and get myself one of these awesome 'Siam Ruby's'! Much to the dismay of my wife, oh wait, that's right...she doesn't know yet. Now how did that happen?!! Oh well, an early b'day present to myself!
Anyhow, ordered mine from Plant Delights yesterday and expect delivery this coming week! Can't wait! I just hope Hurricane Dean stays far away...we had enough rain from T.S. Erin yesterday. The nanners are loving it though! |

Doused w/the same bt spray I use on the cannas, & it worked. But the swiss cheese look on the affected leaves doesn't add to the beauty of the plants, that's for sure! Thank Fred the leaves grow so fast - they're looking better already. I'm expecting the mites this winter, so that's an excellent question! I'm in 'stock-up' mode. Diana . |

Re: Siam Ruby forms
Thanks Kylie! If it makes it through the winter indoors alive, I too hope for a split leaf variant. I'm really excited to see how everyone's plants overwinter, I guess this is a first for us all!

Re: Siam Ruby forms
Out of five pups on my Siam, only one seems to be a little different. It has a deeper burgundy color. The mother plant started to put out leaves with solid green sections on them, then after three leaves went back to normal. I just looked at it and the next leaf appears to have another solid green section on it,(not unfurled yet). Ah... the mysteries of Siam Ruby. No matter what form, they are gorgeous plants to look at!!!

Re: Siam Ruby forms
Brian you are absolutly right.. Every form is beautiful.. One thing that really kind of amazes me is the stability of the SR.. Here it has tolerated extreme heat and humidity and incredibly dry air and hasn't even drooped...I thought it would be a little more needy than it is..The growth rate has been average to above average. It's beauty aside I think it is a very user friendly plant..A wonderful addition here for me..
