Siam Ruby Help Please
When my banana plants produce a new leaf, I thought there was always one waiting to unfurl. My Siam Ruby produced a new leaf over this past week. Shouldn't there be another inside waiting to open? OK experts, can you help me out.
Thanks Raggedy |

Re: Siam Ruby Help Please
i dont know about the ruby but with my nanas sometimes there is one waiting but sometimes there is not. i have had 2 leaves open on each.. my saba and my oronico in less then a week.the saba and oronico are in a race to see who can get a new leaf and open it first. but my basjoos only open one leaf a week(so far). my ornamentals sometimes have a leaf open and there is another waiting to come out. hope this helps. i guess it varies on the nana.

For the love of God, let the poor nana take a break. LOL It will shoot one out soon enough. Some times they pause. Nothing to worry about.

Miss Ruby has a new leaf about to come up. I didn't over water and definitely couldn't ignore. Just get wacky when it comes to my plants. Nights are getting cooler now. So this wacko carts bananas in and out of the garage. I keep them under lights. Now I developed a wrist problem. If it's too hot, I move them under a grass umbrella, Rains too hard and its back in again. I've been asked if I workout. I say no, this dumbell just lifts plants BTW My condition is called Banana wrist. Raggedy |

Re: Siam Ruby Help Please
this is just a thought. Iv noticed with my Ruby which is a vary young plant. that it makes a leaf then sits for a wail before it makes a new one. I'm thinking that with Plants that are variegated they don't have as much chloralfill and have to store up energy before they have enough to make another leaf. Any way thats my theory on the slow leaf production thing!

Re: Siam Ruby Help Please
I don't know how I missed this thread but it's given me my laugh for the day!
We got down to the 50's afew nights already and I understand your apprehension. Mine are in the ground and I've already been itching to dig them up and put in pots. Unfortunately my Saba has gotten too tall to come inside like I had planned so need to figure out which overwintering route I should take. Good luck! LOL Deb |

Re: Siam Ruby Help Please
My SR was in a pot all last year and grew pretty steadily. This year, however, I put it in the ground and, as I've said before, it's been a dry year. I have been keeping it watered and we've been getting a little more rain lately. I've noticed though that the leaves are looking more brownish instead of the nice burgundy color they had last year. Also, one of the leaves didn't emerge properly recently so I cut it off and it was all dark in the middle. I made another cut about 3" down on the pstem and it was dark in the middle. I finally cut it to about 2" above the ground, same thing-black all in the middle. So I have some rot going on for some reason. I still have one good pstem and two or three pups so hopefully those will pull through.
