![]() This one was hit pretty hard this winter but has come back very strong and it seems to be throwing an odd looking leaf- could this be the pre flag leaf? It is a 10 month old Dwarf Orinoco. This isn't the first leaf since winter and it sure looks different from any other leaf from this particular plant.
Can anyone confirm since I have only been into the hobby since I bought this plant and not sure if I am thinking correctly........................... The leaf coming from the biggest plant.............. ![]() Here's a closer look...................... ![]() |

![]() I was completely ecstatic once I thought it may be a flag leaf. I didn't want to post a false alarm so I waited a couple days until it looked like the real deal.
Actually I really wasn't expecting this to happan so soon especially after the harsh winter and having to cut back almost three feet of p-stem and only being 10 months old (11 months on June 10th). I'll post pics of the progress to come.................... RSH |

![]() Cherokee_Greg, thanks much for asking. RScotth, thanks much for the link. I'm assuming, now, that the "flag" leaf is always much smaller than the others[?].

![]() Typically the flag is about 30% the size of a "regular" leaf on the plant.

![]() Hi Bob, I read that somewhere too but, I just got a flag. My normal leaves were almost 48 inches long... then I got a 18 inch leaf. I thought it was the flag. Then I got a 11 inch long leaf... I thought IT was the flag. Then another leaf came out w/ a bulge at the bottom. That leaf is only 4 inches long & the flower is coming out of it. THAT is the flag. Go to 'container forum' & click on last page of "need bigger pot ASAP" & I have pics there. Or, in this forum (main), look at "sick leaf or flag" & you'll see some good pics & info from Tony. Sorry I can't post links to these... my puter sucks.

![]() That's what my ice cream banana did too, it put out a leaf that was just slightly smaller than normal, then it put one out about 24" then 12" and the flag leaf was only about 6" long then the bloom. So if that's not the flag, well then you're pretty close anyway!

![]() Patty & Sandy my plant seems to be taking after yours since today it looks like the flag is sending out a flag. I'll be glad to see the flower come out.
Scott- thanks for the pictures. I was fortunate enough to eat a Manzano from a neighbors tree last year and that was the best banana I have ever ate. I can't wait to share mine when they are ready. I already have a neighbor that says she will make tostones! ![]() |
