This dude got lucky, with a Musa dwarf orinoco variegated for under 30 bucks.
It pays to be a nursery junky sometimes, especially with the TC mutants that pop up randomly. Maybe 1 in 1,000 plants???

I don't know, is it really variegated or just unhealthy? I finally gave up on my Pisang Klotek pup that just wouldn't put out a nice looking leaf. I cut it down last week after seeing 3 new leaves emerge that were small, deformed and sick looking. They still had variegation but were not healthy looking at all. It had about 5 feet of PS when I cut it. The rest of the plant is rocking though! Many new pups, one bunch of fruit hanging, and a few that are almost ready to flower!

Now Gabe's new little TC is defiantly Variegated!

Interesting - he says that the new leaf started out all green, then the variegation came out later. Is that a true variegate or a virus? All my variegates (all plants, not just bananas) come w/variegation in new leaves already apparent. The only changes after they come up are the colors deepening (demarcation, etc), whichever they are (green, white, yellow, etc). Have only had one variegated nana (the Ae'Ae that the dog ate) - & it did the same ... the leaves came up w/the variegation /pattern in place. But then again, the Siam Rubies we just got aren't showing the red till they get sun (my newest leaf IS coming w/red from first peek, though. It's getting all the sun I can wrangle right now!).

"The weirdest thing I've noticed is that the first new leaf came out solid green and turned variegated about a week later."

You're right @ haunting the shops - sometimes you can get very lucky!

Exactly! I was worried that my plant might have Banana Streak Virus.

Thats strange my Variegated bananas Raja puri , Basjoo,Yellow forest all start off green and get the variegation days later. A member on the UK Oasis site remarked that he thought they could be virused. My Ae Aes show signs straight away as did the sikki.
