Spring has sprung and its Naner time.

Just got all my plants back outside and and have discovered new pups on all my plants. the one I am most excited about is two pups on the Musa balbisiana var. liukiuensis that I got from bigdog last year. some one had first dibs on one of these but I forgot who if you are still on the board let me know. I do remember York South Carolina.

Our nursery has just found a source for Banana in the NC. SC. area so we can now have a more steady supply.these are the type available to us in 1 gal and 5 gal sizes. execpt fo Pisang Ceylon is only in 5gal and Siam ruby is also in 15 gal.

Yeah, it's getting about that time up here. my 10 day is showing a low in the

mid 40's so that's buying my plants a little more inside time.

All my plant of size are also pupping like mad.

Whats the lowest you throw your plants out at?

Well the weather here has been really nice and the banana's went outside last week and all was well until last night, weather guy said low if 40 so I thought I will bring the bulk of them back in for the night just in case- the two heaviest are 2 and 3yr old super dwarf cavandish plants and in big pots and so pushed them up next to the house on the deck next to the wall. I woke up this morning at 5AM and the TV said the temp was 36 and I flew out of bed and out to the deck to grab the SDC plants and hefted them inside. Temp was 31.6 on the deck. They appear OK so......here's hoping all are good bu.....

I usually wait till the third week in April we are still in the 45- 56 at night and 60-80 in the day. all my naners look great and are just hanging out. no real fast growth but that will come. they grew slowly in the green house this winter kept it above 45, and I am hoping for a bloom this year on the dwarf orinocos

Most varieties should be able to handle mid to low 40's. Once you get into the 30's you might have some issues with the less cold tolerant ones.

I realize your intentions were pure, but the wording and timing of your thread was a metaphorical slap in the face. You posted it the week that several large blizzards blanketed much of South Australia in snowfall (record snowfalls and cold temps in some places). I don't mean to inhibit the fervor of your celebration , but in the future, please try to show a little more consideration in the timing/wording of such things. There's a fine line between someone being happy about something positive in their life and someone rubbing it in that they are better off than others. (ex: a rich person should not brag about how nice their Porsche is people of a lower socioeconomic status).

In the future, all I ask is that you put some aforethought into your posting to have some consideration for the vast membership on this forum.

Spring is here and the east coast has been very warm lately! Good luck with your bananas!!
