![]() Hello everyone,
Has anyone tried FHIA-3 fruit? There aren't too many posts about it's taste, but they seem to contradictory haha FHIA's original designation says that the plant was intended as a cooking banana, but it seems quite a few people also eat them raw. Is is any good? Thanks!

![]() One of the first pups I got from a member on the forum was Sweetheart. He also gave me some fruit. When I got home I tried the fruit and found it way too sweet to my taste.
I mean disgustingly sweet. Tossed the fruit and gave away the pup. He also gave me a Goldfinger pup. This one will stay planted at my place forever. Great taste, cold resistant, disease free. |

![]() Thanks pitangadiego! I have a flower emerging on my Ice Cream Namwah, but haven't had a chance to try the fruit yet. How does the taste for either compare to Goldfinger or Cavendish? Also, would you recommend the FHIA-3? Thanks!

![]() I haven't tried GF, but the taste of Namwah FAR surpasses Cavendish. Eat when extremely ripe if you want it entirely sweet, and decently ripe if you want some apple-like flavor. It tends to be a bit firm in the middle though, and the outside tends to be sort of slimy when really ripe. I'd still rate it above Cavendish though.

I can't tell you about the taste but here's some pictures. I moved it on 7/16/2013 from its original spot to an area where there's more room and sun. The pictures were taken three days after a storm. |

![]() I enjoy it, the Sweetheart seems to grow about the same as any other variety. I grow it because it's a AABB and I remember reading that it's one of the most widely grown bananas in Cuba. Since I am Cuban American I just couldn't resist.
