Did you have to cut the bunch due to your weather?

Re: Taylor
You need to move or build a giant greenhouse!
Those will ripen but it looks like it will take a while. |

Re: Taylor
We have a greenhouse, but I don't think I would get much more from a potted banana in it.
Who knows...I am just happy to have gotten this far! |

Re: Taylor
Taylor, you better change your signature line. My weather is just cool so my bunches are still making progress, but it doesn't seem like much. We might get lucky and avoid freezes for another 5 weeks or more, but then can come any time. I have light green garbage bags over my bunches so that provides some protection.

Re: Taylor
Well the tallest one that flowered was only about 3 1/2 feet when the bloom opened up. Just one ... it was a race against time with the cold coming on.
And yours are 9-10 feet! I can't wait for that! |

Re: Taylor
Some of the leaves are 3 1/2 feet long! But just like AeAe they burn up in the sun.

Re: Taylor
Patty, the bud "fell" (headed for the ground) on July 21st.
Congrats on your bloom, Deb. Mine get to 8-10 feet every summer too, but the leaves do get burnt, so try to put it in at least 25% shade...any more would slow the plant and blooms. |

Re: Taylor
You know I didn't think about the leaves being sensitive to the sun. Thanks Mitch and Taylor for mentioning that. Since I can't have an AeAe in my zone, this is my substitute for something large with the beautiful white/green leaves.

Re: Taylor
I was in Virginia Beach 2 years ago for a citrus expo - held at the Aquarium. Got to see that fantastic lights display along the coast! Nice place & friendly people.

Re: Taylor
Belated congrats on your fruit, Taylor. You guys that go through all of the work of digging up your plants to over-winter them really make me appreciate being in zone 9 and a little less envious of the zone 10 folks!
