TC Vigor
More than a few times I have read that TC plants aren't as vigorous as pups separated from a mother plant. This Dwarf Orinoco was a 4"-5" TC that I picked up at Jimmmy's in March and planted in the ground late April. The p-stem is now 38" and the base is the size of a softball. Not too bad for a TC.

Re: TC Vigor
It completely depends on how they are taken care of, many people simply do not know how to handle TC plants and they end up being slower to start. If done properly, TC plants can actually be significantly faster than suckers in some cases.

Nice growth! Thanks for sharing.
I have some Tissue Cultures from Jimmmy as well. Hope my DO looks that good come seasons end. Should be planted soon.

My two best performing tc plants from this spring are Saba at an even 5' and a Raja Puri at 57". I moved the Dwarf Orinoco so it has not grown very much since I started this thread. How tall is your Saba? Dave Last edited by DaveE : 07-20-2010 at 07:08 PM. |

Re: TC Vigor
I guess the Saba is about 4.5 - 5' tall now with huge leaves. I'm thinking of wrapping it with freeze cloth.

Bump Bump..lol A Dwarf Orinoco T/C 4ft + P-stem 5'7" or so :^)
No special soil just gets banana fuel and partial shade 20% or so. :^) Last edited by Abnshrek : 07-21-2010 at 03:21 PM. |

Re: TC Vigor
What do you guys do differently with TC plants? I got 2 tiny TC plants from Greenearth Pub (never buying from them again) and they are still tiny. The soil is a mix of compost, perlite and peat moss. Separated pups on the hand took off the past few months.

Re: TC Vigor
My entire farm (2000 plants) came from tissue culture. The one piece of advise I would say is that they need a little shade, wind protection, and adequate fertility and water it took me 18 months to go from 6" plants to harvest and it would have been fewer months if we would have had a normal winter instead of utter cold.
