Hiya Texas Star

Hi All!!

Been very pleased with the 'gift' from my husband.
He braved the waters of TyTy (LOL) & bought me a Texas Star.

It is growing phenomenally!!

Look at all the pink in the P-stems!!

Calling on Gabe & other experts/experienced growers to help me with the probable ID on what lineage of Banana this comes from.
Most likely Orinoco?

Thanks!! ~Cheryl

Does Texas Star exist?

Who knows what it really is, the main problem is that Ty Ty is so untrustworthy in their information that it really does not matter what they say, it doesn't make sense and most of it really seems made up. This plant is likely an Orinoco of some type, whether or not its different from any other common Orinoco remains to be seen, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Cool Re: Texas Star

Hi All!

I've read that thread Gabe, thanks for the link to refresh me!
There has always been much debate on the validity of this 'named' banana, along with 'TyTy'.

It was a gift, so no Love lost on putting my heart into something 'supposedly' special or different. I warned my Hubby ahead of time about the 'chanciness' of this being just an overpriced marketing technique to sell that plant.
So he said he would take the chance for me...

I would be HEAVILY excited if I had an AeAe that grew this big & fast, LOL!!

I am enjoying the plant as a good growing banana & will keep posting it's progress here!!

Thank you & I welcome your continued comments, pictures & input!!! ~Cheryl

Whatever banana is it, its very nice. I thought I had a thai black banana but the stems of the leaves arent black (arent thai black bananas also suppose to have black stems?) The trunk has black spots kind of like cavendish but Im not sure if it is cavendish. No matter what it is, Im going to let it to its best. Its a good grower and a nice plant so theres no reason not to like it!
An ae ae sounds nice! I wish I had one too!

The stems of Thai Black turn black with age. When they're smaller they won't have the coloration yet. This may be the issue (don't know how old your plant is).

Hi All!

I will let you know that my hubby ordered my TS from 'Ty' in May 2009 & I didn't get it until Feb this year.
He ordered a Forest Pansy Redbud tree & they choose to wait to send the corm with the tree.
Only order the corm if you want the corm...anything else may delay your shipping.

The corm was a good corm & the tree transplanted & is doing well, so I have no problem with that - but 9 monthes delivery time?
