Veinte Cohol

Hey all, I am new to the forum but have been lurking for some time now. I have a question regarding veinte cohol. I had read somewhere that dude to the short fruiting time it is a good plant for colder climates. I live in colorado zone 5b/6a these last few years our winters have not been too cold but in the single digits lol. Our summers are hot and dry usually everyday of summer is at least 90. I just want to know if I would be able to grow these. Thank you (I'm not sure if this is in the right place was thinking of putting it in the cold hardy thread but didn't)

Its a good plant for when you have long warm growing seasons but have a few months of cold weather because it will fruit prior to the weather turning cold. It is a very cold sensitive plant so you would have to keep it warm inside and give it a lot of sun light.

If I plant one now will I have fruits this year? Also, how big of a pot should I take and will a greenhouse that stays above freezing suffice?

I live in a zone 6 and am trying to master a method that gets me Viente cohol fruit yearly. what has worked for me so far is saving the pups in the fall and bringing them inside and keeping them alive and growing all winter, Then putting them in the ground, in the best spots i have as soon as the ground warms enough which for me is still a few weeks off.
In your climate I am not sure how they would do in a cold green house maybe bring the small ones inside the house near a sunny window, if you have some. I keep mine above 60 with lots of artificial lighting.
Watch out for mites in winter I seem to get them regularly on the cohol.
In zone 6 if you have a 3' or so healthy plant in the spring you should get fruit!

I was under the impression that Veinte Cohol had a longer cycle. TARS has it listed as:
Days from plant to harvest 421
Days from flower to harvest 62

If you want short cycle I would think something like Patupi would be what you are looking for:
Days from plant to harvest 249
Days from flower to harvest 56

Of course this is assuming all you care about is time to ripe fruit, I hear a lot of good things about VC.

Your best chance at this time that i can think of is if PRGIANTS is selling a nice big corm if not he probably is selling Patupi corms. I got one of those from him last summer and have high hopes for it this year.

so i guess you need an older pup in the fall, or else the timing will get messed up and will miss a year.
last year they ripened pretty late but had several pups as big as the mother. i was going for more plants rather than better fruit so i left all the pups on. the fruit i got wasn't much but tasted pretty good.
This year I can go for the fruit.

The Veinte Cohol 421 is wrong. TARS collects quite a bit of data and it could be the data for the ratoon crop, there are many other number errors in that file.
