I have a question can a banana plant be over watered when its hot out the temp was 101 yesterday i have been watering every day .

Hammer,I have a plant at my house that gets water 24/7. My A/c water discharge never stops dripping,fast almost a solid stream. I connected the water to the plant via a sophisticated system of sticks and seashells. The plant almost floats it is very soggy, it has been hot here(zone 8a)but nothin over 90. It has been about four weeks and the plant is my best grower, no signs of over-watering.

Here in Phoenix, it's around 105 each day, and now I'm watering even 2 times per day. When it's really baking hot, I mist and use my sprinklers for my bananas at 6 a.m., for about an hour. Then at 3 p.m., the bananas get some shade and are misted and watered again for about 45 min. I don't know what the gph is on the microsprinklers, but it's a lot of water. The bananas seem to like it, and they're growing pretty well, about 1 leaf every 5 days. And that's without fertilizer, I wonder how many leaves it would put out if I fed them.

I have peak days of 110 - 120 and I water early in the morning and at sunset, and if it's particularly dry that day (humidity here is normally 85-90%) I also mist them in the afternoon. I carry buckets because my hose doesn't quite reach, and each plant gets 5 gallons twice a day, plus whatever I can spray on them. On days with rain, of course, I don't have to water.

About a foot or two a month. There's no dieback or anything since I have no winter, so it's possible for me to go from pup to fruit in about 16-18 months depending on the cultivar. Plantains and Improved Gros Michel take a bit longer, but they also get BIG.

Hi folks

The humidity here is mostly around 80% as an average. I don't water my bananas unless there has been no rain for several days as when it rains - it pours!! They don't seem to need daily attention and can cope with dryish periods without problems - is this because of the humidity here? the local growers don't water at all!

The short answer is yes, but when they actively growing and it is really hot, it is pretty hard to to overwater. If the soil is saturated or soggy, then that is too much water.

ok i got a question how much trama will it put on the parent if I take the exta pups off?Will it stop it from blooming or slow it down a lot? and does it matter how old the pups are when i do it?
