Re: Weird regrowth of bananas after winter freeze
I've had some weird growth on my nanners which were left in the ground and are coming out of winter dormancy.
I have a raja puri with about five feet of pstem that put out a white leaf similar to yours which eventually turned green and now has a total of four leaves and is doing fine. I have an unprotected namwa which I cut back from seven to about four feet due to freeze damage which put out a long white mid rib lacking any leaf blade initially which was followed by two thin rabbit ear looking leaves. My tallest namwas which were protected have cigar leaves poking but they are just inching out very slow. I'm worried about possible choking but will give them some more time before chopping them back a bit. Overall my shorter pups i.e. 5 feet and down are rocking along with four leaves so far while taller ones i.e. 8 feet and up have their initial cigar leaf inching along. Don't know if that's normal or not since this is my first year. Temps for the last three weeks or so have been around mid 70 highs with mid 50 lows on average. Probably need more heat to get the growth really going. |

Re: Weird regrowth of bananas after winter freeze
Yea they can do some very strange things. Just watch for choking especially on dwarf types! I lost almost all my pstems here! The low was in the 14f-16f range. I have pups up all over. Some on their 3-4th leaf. The 3 pstems that handled it the best seem to be Blue Java, Raja Puri, and Lesiocarpa! Surprisinzingly I lost all my Orinoco pstems.
What was your lowest temp this winter?

Re: Weird regrowth of bananas after winter freeze
Probably 24f or so. The problem was it stuck around for a while. Probably a side effect from hurricane harvey getting it's last laugh.
