Re: what is the best website to buy a banana plant
Green earth was fast, inexpensive, and nice looking plants but I also received plants that were mislabeled and not what I had ordered.

Re: what is the best website to buy a banana plant
Yeah, LOL Sandy!
Here's a heads up....the Musa 'Mini' Super Dwarf Cavendish on Green Earth is most likely the 'high color mini' variant. It doesn't really say this in the description, but had someone on here ID it as that, so upon looking at the GE website again, I noticed the URL says /high-color-mini/ at the end....nothing in the description, and technically that's still an SDC, but more specifically, the high-color SDC. Just FYI. And I just ordered an Ensete Ventricosum 'Maurelii' off Ebay recently from the seller 'EarthStar.' It looks very healthy and cost me ~$9 for the plant and just under $6 for shipping. Very reasonable, I thought. Here's a pic:

Re: what is the best website to buy a banana plant
I've had great luck with both 'Going Bananas' and a local Nursery that does mailorder 'Just Fruits & Exotics'. I've been a customer of 'Logee's' since the 70's but they tend to send small plants. 'Aloha Tropicals' has sent me mislabelled or has stated things about plants that aren't true(like self-pollinating when it requires another plant...). Hope that helps....which won't, if you're not in the US;>!
Cheers, Pat |

I'm sure there are some tropical plant nurseries in Ontario that grow and sell bananas. But you may also find them in Home Depot, Lowe's, and/or Walmart, if you have these chain stores there. FYI, the banana plants that Home Depot sells in the Seattle, WA area come from the Burnaby Lake Nursery in British Columbia. And I would suspect that our local Lowe's and Walmarts have sources from BC, also. There are several large greenhouses in BC. Here are a couple of UK Sellers that ship plants to Canada. The first one is Kev, a member here, (51st State) and he carries the more exotic rare varieties: eBay Canada Seller: hardybananaplants: Home Garden on eBay.ca at low prices You might want to use the eBay "Ask the Seller a Question" feature, to ask Kev, or PM him here directly if he would accept M.O. payments. Do the same with the following Seller. And here's another: eBay Seller: paul271075: Home Garden items on eBay.co.uk Here are a couple of mail order places from BC: Banana Price List www.hawaiianbotanicals.com You might Google "tropical plant nurseries in Ontario, Canada", or "banana plant nurseries in Ontario, Canada", then click individual websites for banana plants. Happy banana hunting! Chong Last edited by chong : 05-03-2009 at 09:36 PM. Reason: Added comment |

Re: what is the best website to buy a banana plant
I'm in Ontario and I haven't had any luck with Hawaiian Botanicals (the customer service guy is rude and obnoxious) but have had great experiences with Canada Bamboo World - bamboo nursery offering cold hardy bamboo plants. They only seem to sell Musa basjoo banana plants though.
