"Dwarf" Orinoco (it's 9.5' to the top of the peduncle) and Goldfinger (small at 7.5') are the first two to bloom for me. Unfortunately, it looks like the Goldfinger isn't going to make any fruit for me -- it didn't make any female flowers. This plant has had nutritional problems (boron deficiency and too little nitrogen), so I guess I'm not surprised. Maybe I'll get it right next year!

Here's a sequence of photos for the dwarf Orinoco:

12 bunches going. 2 Williams, 1 a very pathetic Ice Cream with all of 6 bananas on it, and the rest Hawaiian Apple.

Wonderful pictures everyone!!! Thanks for sharing!

Mark,

Your ''Dwarf'' Orinoco seems like Tall Orinoco to me as i see no dwarf characters on it like the characteristic short and wide leafs of dwarf cultivars. Its pups should flower at a great height with good water and fertilizer!

I agree, the "dwarf" 'Orinoco' is certainly not a dwarf, it is the normal tall 'Orinoco'.

Yes, I'd also reached that conclusion, that the "dwarf" Orinoco was regular Orinoco. It came from a reputable nursery, who got it from a reputable grower. Just goes to show how many errors there are in banana identification. Don't believe what the label says!

My neighbor is growing this and is not sure what this is. The p-stem is about 11 ft high,
and I don't think it is Dwarf Brazilian since I have two that just flowered and this appears
to have thicker 'fingers' on it. I don't see any distinguishing colors on leaves or petioles.
Any ideas? Could it be another Orinoco?
(I gotta get them to stop throwing away those tags)

Yug, I don't know what it is, but it isn't Orinoco. Looks like an AAB genome to me. Could be dwarf Brazilian, but not enough of the key characters are shown in the photos. Call in the expert: Gabe, where are you?

Well Tony, your nights have been a little warmer than mine. My possible FHIA-2 bunch has been just sitting there, not plumping out and just aging. Hopefully they will mature before it is time to hang them.
