Yes, FHIA-1 and FHIA-18 are siblings, so not too different. Both are tetraploid (AAAB), and in general, the more chromosome sets the droopier the leaves.

Here's today's bud on one of my FHIA-18. There's nothing for scale, but it is a long, slender bud, about 2' long.

And here's a Manzano bud. Got this plant from Sunfish 3 years ago. It took its sweet time to bloom.

We're the city right next to Palm Springs,Ca. This mat has 4 pups on it ranging from 3-5 ft tall. I would like to separate 2 pups off the mother plant but now that it's fruiting should I wait?

Nick --- is that the one you got from me? The Filipino Dr. I got it from at the club described it but I don't recollect. He said it was one of his family favorites back home. Traded him my Saba.

This one was sold to me as a Raja Puri, but it lacks red lining on the edge of its petioles, so it isn't that cultivar. Probably another Dwarf Orinoco. It doesn't have any leaves, but it's attached to an established mat for support, so I think it'll be fine. I'm hoping that the other two big pstems on the mat will quickly push out 8 or so leaves apiece and flower in early spring. It'd be pretty cool to have multiple bunches hanging from the same mat

Here's a pic of the emerging bunch:

Supposed Raja Puri on the left, supposed Double on the right (both probably DO's):

Dan, it is the plant I got from you. The pseudostem is about 4' It stayed very green over the winter and retained most of its leaves. If the fruit is good I have found a winner. This would be perfect for greenhouse plantings. It is susceptible to sigatoka.

That's great to hear. At the time I got this corm I had filled in all my spaces with naners I got from you and others. So I didn't plant it. If the fruit is good save me a pup.

I haven't given up finding what this thing is. Every Asian I meet I ask if they are Filipino and if they knew the Baloy back home. lol

I discovered 3 new very good restaurants this way. lolol

My first Tall Red. Almost 6 years to fruit. The first ones that got tall enough died from extensive weevil damage.

Baloy is a location in the Philippines (baloy beach philippines wikipedia) and (City of Olongapo) maybe that's where the plant was first discovered.

Here's a banana bread recipe using Baloy bananas with photos.Food Trip Tayo!: Goin' Bananas!
