Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
Hello folks;
I planted bananas in Long Beach CA 18-20 months ago. We have the first bloom and bananas showing. I am new to banana growing and gardening in general. Newby question is what happens now? how long to wait for eating, picking etc... put picture in my gallery This is an ice cream banana I brought home from a friend in Florida. I haven't figured out how to add pictures to posts but I will soon. Thanks Last edited by bob2ride : 06-14-2014 at 11:12 AM. Reason: adding picture |

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
First Goldfinger. 12 months after planting the small TC. Was in half day sun in a densely planted area, so pretty fast considering.
First bloom from the my 2nd Mysore mat, small pup from 16 months ago in same conditions as the Goldfinger. Rose from a pup planted in essentially full shade between some much taller plants. Has taken 2.5 years to get this nearly choked bunch. |

Wow; great bunch! I've never heard of the Baloy variety before; how long do they take to bloom?

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
It is some kind of Dwarf Cavendish from the Phillipines. It was about 10 months plant to bloom. It looks like a great fit for someone in a greenhouse.
