Re: Musa 'Bordelon'
I'll trade you two bordelons for a orinoco and a goldfinger. I don't have either one of those currently.

Re: Musa 'Bordelon'
Hello All,
Well thanks to Cherokee Greg I have found a good source on the 'bordelons'. I got 4 of them on the way. I still can trade with you guys if you are interested, but probably for something other than 'borderlon'. I do have a couple of questions too, if you dont mind. How well do 'bordelon' tolerate full sun? How hardy are they with respect to the winter? How slow / vigorous are they? Simply bananas, Those are seed grown from 'banana tree' and the giant is a sikk. hybrid with most likely a balbisiana, from what i've read. Sandy, I would gladly part with those two. I've got those coming out of my ears. Do you have any Thai Blacks? Cowboy, Warning on the veluntina...I have reason to believe it's in fact a ornata 'magenta'. Its blue green and gets to 10 feet. Never seen veluntina that tall before. |

Re: Musa 'Bordelon'
mine are in full sun lost the mother this winter the stem rotted on me but I put the crom in the ground and it came back as a clump with about five pups at once, the other pups have at least four to five pups each so I seem to get a lot of clumping with mine. wish i was getting more upward growth.

Re: Musa 'Bordelon'
yes most definitely less hardy then Orinoco or dwarf Orinoco. bordelon is said to be a zone 9 banana. but I put mine in my green house during the winter.

Re: Musa 'Bordelon'
Nice to know. I was thinking they were a little tougher. Still a good one for here.

Re: Musa 'Bordelon'
Jeff,
My neighbor's bordelons are in the full, hot sun and are beautiful. I put mine in the shade and it sulked all summer and didn't come back after this past winter. I'd treat it like ornata and cut it to the ground in the winter since it comes up so stong and fast in the spring. From what I've seen in the neighbor's yard, it is a tough and vigorous as anything else in these parts. They, and my ornatas, are already taller than I am. Russell |
