Re: Tissue Culture Workshop Interest
Okay, I will ask Carol to shoot for one of those 2 Saturdays. March 14th or 21st. Anyone else? Do one of these 2 dates work for you? Please let me know. Thank you.

Re: Tissue Culture Workshop Interest
Ok, I just got word from Carol Stiff that March 14, 2009 works for her. She also asked what interests we had in the group, to which I replied, primarily bananas, but also orchids, tropical fruit, walnuts, and other cool plants. Did I miss anything that you want to have her talk about?
Let's try to get at least 10-15 people to attend and show our support. (it will also lower our costs for the workshop) Thanks!!! |

Re: Tissue Culture Workshop Interest
I'd possibly like to be able to TC pineapple and/or papaya. I believe the Sugarloaf pinepapple is propagated by this manner as well as the TR Hovey papaya, but I'm sure anything discussed will get us the basics and the rest we can nail down in Carol's discussion group.
Thanks again, Scot! |

Re: Tissue Culture Workshop Interest
I would like to learn the protocol for Coconut Sport (Macapuno) TC, if anyone knows about it. If this is possible, I can almost guarantee my attendance.
Thanks again, Scot. |

Re: Tissue Culture Workshop Interest
I think I'll do this. I am now looking at prices to go to the Tropical Plant Industry Exposition, in January, in Ft. Lauderdale (for our non US friends, Fort Lauderdale is just north of Miami, in Florida) I have done this for 15 years and more, but this year, prices have relly escalated, but I'll still do it. Like $300+ a night for hotel, plus air fare, and then I saw that I can have 3 nights in Vegas incl. airfare & transfers for about $350.
I got my first bananas in 1972. I did my first tissue culture in 1979. |

Re: Tissue Culture Workshop Interest
Ok, I just emailed Carol and need to start getting a head count. Please let me know by January 15 so that i can give Carol some idea as to how many to plan.
If we can't get enough interest, it doesn't make sense for Carol to make the trip out this way, so it will be some time before we can get another workshop out our way. This may also be the least expensive seminar for our area since the room we will use is at my office, so it is free! I may be able to get Carol's room free ("comped") and I will pick her up and drop her off at the airport. So all of these savings get passed on to us. We just need more people to spread the remaining hard costs. The more we have, the lower the cost per person! Thanks much!!! |

Re: Tissue Culture Workshop Interest
Thanks, Scot. I plan on going to Las Vegas as long as someone else is able to go to keep me company on the drive (Microfarmer has indicated a desire to go). I had thought about trying the Bakersfield workshop since it was closer but that did not work out with my schedule.
I have written Carol about TC of chestnuts and she's provided me with some information, but I don't think that would be of much use to others. I haven't been able to get anyone else to express an interest. I'll keep trying, though. |

Re: Tissue Culture Workshop Interest
If everyone above still plans to attend, I count 7. Carol is going to post it on the tissue culture listserver which should increase the count considerably.

Re: Tissue Culture Workshop Interest
Awesome James! Carol said that she will have a web-based sign-up available in mid-January for people to register. I believe she will have it set-up to accept Paypal. More details to follow once it becomes available.
This is going to be a super workshop!!! I mentioned bananas, pineapple, guava, coconut and some other items of interest to Carol. With this much lead-time, I am sure that she will do everything possible to teach all of us the various methods to TC our favorites. Last edited by Chironex : 12-28-2008 at 03:48 PM. Re: Tissue Culture Workshop Interest
How many people can you accomodate for this? Would it be OK to mention on some other sites?

Re: Tissue Culture Workshop Interest
I think we could comfortably handle about 18-20. So, by all means mention it on other sites. Carol indicates that she will have the online sign-up ready for payments by January 11, 2009. Registration will be on a first come, first served basis so mark down this date to register early. I will let you know if it opens earlier.
Any questions can be PM'ed to me. Carol doesn't check her PM's here too often as she is on several blogs, so you can PM me or email Carol directly. |
