Hey,

Here the translation:

Hey ,
thanks for your anser. No i haven't asked them for a Plant yet, because I'm not so sure anymore if the Blue Java is the right Plant i was looking for.

I'm looking for a banana with small yellow and sweet fruits. My GF tasted some once and she was just amazed by the taste. So the plant im looking for coult be:
Musa Chini Champa, Musa Goldfinger or other types with the same attributs as said above.
I finally have been pointed to Markus Jona's nursery here in germany, so i will by there if i finally found the right Plant.

And btw im new here and im so f*** amazed about how many things I've allready learned and Im just addicted and planning to translate many of the topics to an german exotic plant forum. To share your exper(t)ience with other people who might not speak english *sigh* and btwbtw sorry for my bad english

As this is an English speaking forum, lets keep the German for PMs.
There are several other possibilities you might want to check into.
Namwah comes to my mind. I grow both Namwah and Blue Java, like them both. Mysore varieties like Pisang Ceylon and Pisang Klotek banana fruits are edible (without seeds) , are smaller in size and have an outstanding flavor, but not necessarily common in Europe.
Manzano, (Dwarf) Brazilian are other possibilities. More info on plant, leaves, inflorescence would be needed to narrow it down. Bottom line there are a LOT very good tasting smaller fruit banana varieties out there.

Hey Crazy Banana, I am also in San Diego (east county).
Would you be interested in trading banana pups sometime?

I only have a few small banana trees currently but my Orinoco loves to make pups.
I have a Jamaican Red, but I recently resurrected it from the dead. In a few months it will make pups too (since it is alive again and looking happy).
I also have two Hawaiian Apple banana plants but they have not yet made pups.

Interested in a trade?
I would like to have an Ice Cream Banana and maybe a Misi Liki.
I hear these two are really nice to eat.

My main interest in sweet dessert bananas.
Also, Some of my bananas are growing in big pots on a patio (and doing really well).
The Hawaiian Apple are the only ones I have in the ground right now (in a friend's yard).

I would gladly buy the other banana plant varieties if I had any money.
I have no idea what it would be like to have money.

Do you go to any of the CRFG meetings? (California Rare Fruit Growers - San Diego chapter) If so, introduce yourself to me sometime. I'm a short, stout, middle aged lady with long red hair and will be the one talking too much.

Here's a question for you, how do you give your banana plants enough water during our drought? When I try to conserve water by using bark mulch on top of the soil or mix peat moss into the dirt then my bananas show signs of root rot (brown spots on the stems). Got any good water conservation ideas for me?

Thanks!

Skiarun,
we have already exchanged some PMs last week, remember?
Until I move to a bigger house with bigger yard there will not be any more room for additional banana plants.
I have been to the CRFG meetings but not recently. They take place every last Wednesday of the month at the Prado in Balboa Park.
I do grow the in the title of this thread mentioned Blue Java/Ice Cream, Misi Luki/Namwah, Pisang Klotek, Pisang Ceylon, Dwarf Brazilian/ Hawaiian Apple and other dessert varieties in case you want to add to your collection.

In general and not just for the purpose of conserving water, I highly recommend compost and mulching over several inches on all your banana plants. I have never had any problems with rotting, but most of my plants are in the ground.

My apologies to boffcheck: did not intend to high jack your thread, just tried to briefly answer Skiarun
