I can't seem to edit my ad, but here is an update on it.

I have 2 Musa 'Tanna' albo variegate pups for sale.

According to variegated banana expert Steven (Miamimax), this banana is actually a variegated Musa balbisiana which came from Indonesia. This grows big to 14ft.

The color is green and white like the AeAe but more green and a robust grower. This same banana is also sold under the names Thai Yellow Banana, Giant Tanna, Ta Nee, Tannee, Tanna, Bluggoe, and Silver Bluggoe. The leaves are rigid, very shiny olive dark green. The white variegation consists of sectored and thin stripes. This variegated banana is much more hardy than AeAe and can be grown in full sun.

Hi Claire,
I sent you my apologise email few weeks ago, and I told customers to trust you.
I have a white-flowered plumeria growing outside in 100% sandy soil, outdoor all round the whole year. It flowered early this year.
You could put 100% sand in your garden...40c.m deep, before plant the plumerias in, on April springtime, if you lives south of latitude 38oN.
Feed your plumeria on May-July.
Since it's autumntime at your place...replace the loam soil, with sand, around your plumerias. Wet loam soil kills plumerias during wintertime.

Clare, I know this is not a discussion thread, but hope you don't mind...has this variety fruited for you yet? Mine survived the winter and maybe (big maybe), mine might flower this year if the summer comes early and is warmer than last year.

Hi Harvey,

I don't mind at all. Mine are pretty tall now at around twelve feet at the top of the p-stem, and I expect that they would flower this year. None have flowered for me yet, and the oldest ones have been in the ground since June, 2010. From what I read somewhere, the Tanee makes large-seeded inedible fruit, but I can't confirm that yet obviously. I've been pulling pups and large ones off the mats to sell, and so my mats look pretty sparse right now. The wind shreds the leaves badly here. I think someone needs to hybridize a dwarf one of these so that they can be protected from the wind.

I'm glad to hear that yours survived the winter in Zone 9b. Did you have to use any overhead protection? I have a couple people who bought from me who are in Zone 9b and who would be grateful to know how you did it.

Thanks, Clare. Mine had no protection whatsoever. This was a cold winter with 32 nights of frost and one night down to about 22F from the best I can guess (my thermometer read 25F but a local station reported 18F). However, the cold was mostly due to the drought and lack of cloud cover and many of our nights with frost were followed from very pleasant days. All of the leaves were fried but it is re-growing from the top. My last Ae Ae died this winter as well as a few others, so this variety is a "winner" for me. I honestly didn't expect it to survive but both the main plant and the small pup are alive.

That's what I understood about the fruit as well and just was wanting confirmation from you. Good luck this year!

Thanks for that info., Harvey. I'll pass it along to other growers in your Zone. Congrats on your banana's survival. We had all heard that it was more hardy than the AeAe, but it is nice to have confirmation. Sorry about your AeAe by the way.

I visited these plants at Clare's house before the tough, windy winter we had, and I can verify that these variegated banana plants are really attractive. In some ways, better looking that Ae Ae, to me at least.

Hi Kat, yes, I do. I have one fairly large one on the mat that I could remove. Expect shipping to be $45 on this one. That one would have to be shipped with the top removed.

Otherwise, I have some smaller ones coming up that will probably be ready in a month or two for removal. I can post here when they are ready.

I'm available for shipping today and tomorrow if you want the one that I have available, but I will be away beginning Tuesday, April 3rd, and won't be shipping bananas for a couple of weeks after that.
