Banana Seed Germination Forum As one of the toughest seeds in the plant kingdom to figure out the keys to germination success with, this is a forum with banana seed germination tips. Please entitle posts like "Musa balbisiana," or "Musa cheesmani," etc. People would then post a reply under that heading, sharing their germination successes (and failures), what materials and methods they used, germination percentage, etc. |

Dwarf Chinese Banana Seeds Sprouted
Labeled as: Dwarf Chinese Banana ( Musa acuminata dwarf ) from Seedman.com, they were cheap and I was already ordering other stuff from them. I only planted five seeds, soaked in water for two days and then put into tray of sterilized organic potting soil. On heat mat. One sprout in just over two weeks, the next spout after about 3 weeks. I have them under a cheap little grow light for now. I've only grown banana from seed a couple times and it usually took much longer than a couple weeks so I was pleasantly surprised.

Re: Dwarf Chinese Banana Seeds Sprouted
The good news is they actually look like a banana. The bad news is that Musa acuminata 'Dwarf Chinese' banana seeds do not exist, so who knows what you got. There are lots of seed scams out there, and lots of half-truth not accurate seed sold out there as well, most can get away with it because the chance of someone actually growing it out successfully to fruiting and properly IDing it and reporting back is very low and takes a long time anyway.

Re: Dwarf Chinese Banana Seeds Sprouted
Cavendish seeds are very rare and even if you were able to get seeds from a Cavendish fruit the resulting plant would not be a Cavendish. Most people here are familiar with the Mona Lisa aka FHIA-02, the original plant was grown from a seed developed in a Cavendish fruit.
These scams are very common especially with Dwarf Cavendish, Blue Java and A'ea'e. While Blue Java and A'ea'e will easily produce seeds it's important to realize that the resulting seeds will not produce a Blue Java or an A'ea'e, they'll produce an entirely new variety. Seeds from a Blue Java Seed from an A'ea'e

Re: Dwarf Chinese Banana Seeds Sprouted
They weren't described as Cavendish. It's not possible for a wild acuminata to be smaller than other varieties?

Re: Dwarf Chinese Banana Seeds Sprouted
They didn't need to be described as Cavendish because the Dwarf Chinese Banana is just one of the common names for the Dwarf Cavendish Banana.
Dwarf Chinese Banana = Dwarf Cavendish Banana Dwarf Cavendish Banana = Dwarf Chinese Banana
