Banana Seed Germination Forum As one of the toughest seeds in the plant kingdom to figure out the keys to germination success with, this is a forum with banana seed germination tips. Please entitle posts like "Musa balbisiana," or "Musa cheesmani," etc. People would then post a reply under that heading, sharing their germination successes (and failures), what materials and methods they used, germination percentage, etc. |

Germination Setup (musa itinerans gigantea)
I'm attempting to germinate musa itinerans gigantea. Here's the setup:
1. I've built a temporary greenhouse on the side of my home. 2. I have an electric heater on thermostat that does a good job of keeping the air in the 60s and 70s near the ground. Into the 80s at head-level. 3. I've setup a radiant heat lamp on timer that really gets the soil warm during the day. 4. I'm placing the seeds in peat pots in a peat mix that contains 95% peat w/ a little perlite and fertilizer. 5. I'll soak the seeds for 24 hours before planting. How's this sound? Should give me some temperature swings. Any other suggestions? |

Re: Germination Setup (musa itinerans gigantea)
Just a little reminder--if you cover the seeds with clear plastic/celophane you may not have to add water to the mix every two days. If you dont, the heat will dry the mix in a day and you dont want your mix to get too dry.

Re: Germination Setup (musa itinerans gigantea)
Sounds almost exactly like how I'm doing it. I might suggest a heat mat. They are cheap and really seem to help by keeping your soil warm. It will keep ya from having to run the light so much except for supplemental light. Also you'll have a heck of an electric bill before you know it. Good luck!-Nate
