Banana Seed Germination Forum As one of the toughest seeds in the plant kingdom to figure out the keys to germination success with, this is a forum with banana seed germination tips. Please entitle posts like "Musa balbisiana," or "Musa cheesmani," etc. People would then post a reply under that heading, sharing their germination successes (and failures), what materials and methods they used, germination percentage, etc. |

Nitrozime
Hi everyone, Just ordered Nitrozyme Has anyone tried this on banana plants. It's hormones to increase the size of plants and flowers 25 to 50%. How about soaking seeds? I just started soaking seeds in Epsom salts. Also scarified. They all sunk. Guess they are viable. Just a thought on the Nitrozyme.

Re: Nitrozime
I don't know if size of plant or flower can be up to 50% bigger.
Sure do good, I used some, but i have had no test group with and without nitrozyme to tell % more growth. It's written "seed treatment" on the box, maybe can work. Does cytokinins in nitrozyme do something for germination? Or another component in it? (Ingredients: cytokinins, vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, D, E, K, along with carbohydrates including alginic acid and macro and trace elements ) Typical Analysis A. Active Ingredient Cytokinin, as kinetin, based on biological activity 0.04% (400 ppm) B. Registration United States EPA Registration No. 45246-1 C. Chemical and Physical Properties Physical State: Liquid Color: Brown/Black Specific Gravity: 1 14 @ 20oC (min.) Solubility: Highly soluble in water pH: 4.3 - 5.0 Nitrogen: 0.2% - 0.4% P2O5: 4.0% - 5.0% K2O: 4.0% - 5.0% Organic Matter: 10% - 12% Solids: 22% - 24% Source keep us update if you test it on germination !

Re: Nitrozime
I've conducted a small (hardly) scientific study, no double blind studys here, on the effects of different seed treatments and the effect on speed of germination.
I tried nitrozyme at the concentration recommended for seed treatment, 20 ml per litre; tap water; epsom salts at 1 gram per litre, 2 gram per litre and 3 gram per litre. I found that for speed and % germination 2 gram per litre of epsom salts was by far the best and actually water was better than nitrozyme. I used to swear by it for germination, but now I use it as a plant tonic. Don't start me on scarifying... Sunfish, what would the pics be of? a bottle of nitrozyme? |
