Default Basjoo and mekong giant question

Today I peeled a dead piece off the stem of my basjoo and I saw a spot. Is it rotting? I also looked at the base and it was cracked. Why does that happen? Also my mekong giants new leaf has yellow spots. How did that happen?

i tried uploading pictures to my account but it wouldnt show up but i can describe it a little better. i usually water the plant ever other day on days 80+ and i like to water the leafs and the stem(that might have caused it) and the spot is about 1in by 2in high and its not mushy it has some grey and it mainly black and as of the crack it going up and down. the Mekong giant sent out a new leaf and ofcourse the tip is brown from sun burn but it has a few yellow spots about half an inch in diameter i fertilize every two weeks lightly.
