Default GoldFinger Leaf Rot at Base?

Here is two pictures of a leaf and the banana plant at soil level. Two leafs had folded down but were still nice and green so I left them. This morning I lifted the leafs up and found what I would guess to be rot on the two leafs at the very base. I cut them off. The goldfinger is about 5 feet tall and looks real good other than this problem.

Have I done something wrong?

Should be fine...general rule is if it's brown/squishy remove it. Then again, I've had small amounts of rot on pstems before when plants were in active growth and it wasn't an issue. However, if it were cold/wet, it could spread and become a problem.

So no...I don't think you did anything wrong.

I want worry then. I will keep an eye on it to be sure.

Thanks so much for the advice.

If I can get to next spring, I think I will have at least a grip on growing bananas.

Default Re: GoldFinger Leaf Rot at Base?????

Hi all, I'm a newbie and need some help!
I have a California Gold that is approx. a month old. It was approx. 10" tall with 3 small leafs on it when received. It has grown approx. 4 " in a month and now has 7 leaves.
I noticed this week that a black mold or fungus is starting to appear on a couple of the original leafs on the pseudostem near the base...just above the soil level.
It (fungus) appears to be spreading around the pseudostem and upward.
Otherwise, the young plant appears healthy!
Any ideas from the community here as to what's happening. ANY advice or suggestions is greatly appreciated.
BTW, the plant is in a container and has only been outside about 10 days. I first thought the black looking fungus was potting mix that had gotten up on the stem...but it won't rub or wash off!!! HELP
