Re: Ice Cream banana problems
Mine also has that white powder- just like Musa Cavendish. Just don't touch it too much, she is fine.

Re: Ice Cream banana problems
Hi Tropigal,
that must be, because you have a red thumb? - Aaww, really! (blush) It may well be some kind of (powdery?) mildew - or not. Be that as it may, there is a new supposedly bio-friendly fungicide on the market: Serenade Biofungicide - Growing Supplies - Compare Prices, Reviews and Buy at Nextag - Price - Review I bought the 32oz bottle of concentrate. It will last for a decade to spray my three Grapevines and the 4 clematis. Good luck, Olaf

Re: Ice Cream banana problems
So I guess the powder may not be a big deal.. What about the spots? Some big scary looking ones and a cluster of little black ones along the middle of the leaf. The new leaf is coming in really small also with spots on it. They used to come in totally green and big. I'm really worried about it, and wondering if I should cut the spotted leaves off.
Thanks everyone! |

Re: Ice Cream banana problems
Don't cut the leaf off until it is no longer functioning as a solar panel. Follow the mantra of pitangadiego (Jon): green is good, brown is bad.
For fungicide, I recommend old-fashioned baking powder (potassium bicarbonate). You'll find it either in the no-sodium section of the supermarket or on the pesticide shelf at an independent nursery. Don't use modern baking powder -- that is sodium bicarbonate and will harm your plant.

Re: Ice Cream banana problems
Thanks! Do I just sprinkle the powder all over the leaves and trunk? Work into the soil?
