I've got 4 pots of banana plants that look like this some with fewer pups. This one has 7. I potted them in pots since I couldn't decide where to plant in the ground and they've all taken off like crazy. One is about 6 feet tall. ![]() Should I split off some of the pups now into their own pots or wait until the end of the season or the beginning of next season to split them? Thanks, Jeanne |

![]() You could separate off some of the bigger ones if you wanted to. Now is not a terrible time to separate (much better than fall) since it will have a good season to recover during. Just put the plants in some shade after transplanting or maybe partial sun depending on how oppressive the sun is there right now.

![]() You mentioned setting them in the shade or partial if I split them. It's funny because 3 of the 4 are in almost complete shade, perhaps some dappled sun. The picture I posted is the only one that gets a lot of intense sun and it's smaller... more pups, but smaller plants.

![]() Yeah, the shade was only to help with transplant shock. Once they are recovered, I'd go full sun. Bananas love sunlight....just watch to make sure they get watered often, especially in a pot. Depending on the size of pot, you may have to water it once or even twice a day.
