White powdery film
First off I'm a new banana keeper and what I have pictured below is a Cali-Gold. I'm over-wintering indoors in a 5 gallon bucket with peat moss and perlite and pot ash. I've had it now for about 2 weeks and a few days along with a D. Namwah. The Cali-Gold use to not have any stem on it 2 weeks ago, so all the growth in the photo is 2 week growth.
My question is this; has anybody ever had a very lite white powdery film appear on the pseudostem and new growth? Maybe it's dust that has settled in the area where they're being kept underneath the grow light, I don't know. I like to assume that it's dust from the pot ash or dust from the particles falling and going around in the air HAHAHHA. Does anybody have any ideas? Just wondering, the Cali-Gold seem's to be growing ok for now, but the D.Namwah I suppose is still trying to settle it's roots in. I water one drinking cup of water per week.

Re: White powdery film
Frankly, Abdullah, I cannot detect any white powder on your photo, accordingly I do not
feel it is worth worrying about at this time. If it was anything coming from the soil, it would probably show up most prominently on the cutting surface, where the sap, containing the stuff oozes out and dries up, not outside of the stem. If it increases significantly you may have to consider it being powdery mildew. In that case you may have to get some Serenade, a bio-friendly fungi fighter and spray it on. I am pleased to see a kindred spirit in terms of Facebook. Its all pervasive presence and intrusion on privacy as well as commercialization of the information they gather is completely intolerable to me. I fail to see, why so many people - and not just kids, succumb to their aggressive promotions Best, Olaf

Re: White powdery film
It could just be wax. This is really common on a lot of varieties, and the plant produces it naturally.
